How many people here have lowered their rides with a set of after-market springs but left the factory shocks? Is it really worth the effort of replacing the shocks if you're not going super-low?

Springs are cheap.. shocks aren't! Esspecially if you're looking at Koni or something rather than Monroes..

Ive lowered the TE with out replacing the shocks after doing 200,000ks and its fine as long as your shocks are in good condition. :D

I have just changed the springs and left the factory shocks - they are only 75000k's old and are still fine - but i will be looking at bilstein when the cash permits!!

yeah i have the standard shocks in with whiteline low springs.... they do the job, but seeing as they were on the way out before the new springs went in, they could be better.... i will be upgrading as soon as i have the money!

I just replaced my springs with Kings and have had them on for a full year and no problems at all. Some people usually like to go to the extra expense knowing its done properly...

Not just that, if you lower your car too low without investing in a nice set of shocks, within a year or a bit more your stockies will crack, your tyres will wear unevenly and you'll get many various other problems that cost ME 2 grand, instead of 1 grand if I'd actually had the work done a year before.

how much do Monroe Shocks and Camber kit cost and is it really worth it?

As told by Mitsu themselves;

the VRX, Sports and Ralliart can be further lowered without changing springs because they are sports springs, the other magnas uses another type and they recommend that the shocks be changed if u lower the car..

I'm guessing he either made a mistake or he's talking about compressing the standard springs!

Sorry about my silly mistake;

To clarify, The springs can be changed to lower ones without changing the shocks on the Sports, VRX and Ralliart.

However on all other model magnas, it is recommended that the shocks be changed when u lower the car..

Sorry about that....

I've done the springs only - however I'd still like handling improved more, so I'm think maybe I should get the shocks upgraded before I get a rear sway bar + strut brace.

I just think cornering could be a bit better. Mind you since lower, I probably corner a lot faster anyway lol

Agree on that one. I would not change springs only. But I guess it always comes down to preference and budget. It's not a big deal not to change them (shocks). But it depends on how low one goes and how the shocks travel after.
Camber problems are usually due to too low suspension and camber kits are available to rectify this. Shocks make no difference in camber.

However on all other model magnas, it is recommended that the shocks be changed when u lower the car..
Sorry about that....

Replace the front shocks.. more traction and control, even on my TJ sports.. my shocks have started to do funny things so ordered some k- mac shocks and will see how they go, + some kumho tires :D i hate the old bridgestone turanza's :(

i don't know if this is just me, but sometimes during spirited driving in a straight-ish line, the car likes to bounce around, which feels like it's twisting marginally on the rear/left & front/right axis. I don't know if I'm imagining thins though, but it's hard to describe.

I like the way that sounds :lol:

Mine does that too. When i turn the traction off it does it more.

yeh it's like it bounces from side to side - or from the rear left corner to the front right corner.
