Hi all,
G'day from a new owner of a '98 TF Altera. Previous cart was a '91 Corolla Seca, and before that a lightly modded '96 EK Civic sedan.
The "new" car is in pretty good nick given the milage (~510,000Ks - all highway) and has been serviced every 5000Ks since new (have recieved all reciepts for every bit of work ever done). Says a lot for regular maintenance!
Had it inspected by 2 independant mechanics, and both reckon she's in mint condition - all genuine Mitsubishi parts, no signs of age/wear or any problems. Body work has some minor "characteristics", as you'd expect from a car that's done half a million highway Ks, but nothing that can't be fixed with a little touch up paint, elbow grease and some good polish and wax.
Anyway, the only thing that isn't stock on the car is the head unit. I wanted to run my iPod through it so did some research and found that I can purchase an auxiliary input cable that plugs into where the CD stacker would normally go. So I went about getting the cable, then researching how to get at the back of the HU, did a search and found this thread (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42216&highlight=remove+centre+console+magna), and sorta followed the instructions here (http://members.optusnet.com.au/miltonf/car/mitsu/console/stereoremoval.htm).
Managed to pull it apart OK, install the cable, test it, and then went to put it all back together......
The problem is that it came apart real easy and real quick, but now it won't line up properly, or click back into place.
After some "convincing" it's kinda hanging in the right spot, sorta lining up, but won't click into place. And to top it all off, the dial that controls where to direct the air-con won't turn the full way, and when I do turn it, doesn't change from being directed at the face (as in won't go to windscreen, feet or anything else)...I did skip the part in the instructions telling me to unclip the climate control/air-con cable under the steering wheel, but I figured at the time that it was only relvant for TL models with climate control....
Would unclipping and resetting this cable be the answer to my issues?
