When coming home from shops tonight noticed my car was running very ruff. When I started the car it wasnt idling properly and as I went to change from Reverse to Drive the car was idling so badly that the car was chugging/lurching without and acceleration. In park the exhaust has a distinct smell of fuel. Any suggestions?

this is off the top of my head but could it be your o2?
ISC playing up perhaps.
First thing I'd do though is disconnect and reconnect the battery to reset the ECU, then leave the car idle for 15 mins or so to let it learn a proper idle, and drive in gently for a bit after that.

also try cleaning it and your throttle body out first

Well disconnected the battery and am letting idle again. See what results I get.

Well disconnecting the battery didn't help. Will have to take the car to mechanics on Wednesday after exams.

Got the car back, was small issue. Dodgey spark plug and some crap in the throttle body, running much better now.

hehe. i just got the same issue. drove home, and all the sudden exhaust sounded alot deeper, engine ran rougher and smelled like petrol big time. my whole garage and house smells like petrol now. its sickening.
I had the car with mitsubishi couple months ago and they replaced the rear bank spark plugs. Engine sounded like it was knocking in the rear. perhaps due to fuel build up.. who knows.
taking it to mitsubishi tomorrow morning to get it sorted... so annoying.
Is it dangerous to drive it when its like this?

What driving the car when its running rich?
Not dangerous, expensive, but not really dangerous.

I wouldn't call it rich. more soaked. lol if a spark plug is not working, doesnt that flood the cylinder with fuel?

Got the car toed to mitsubishi this morning. Got a call around 4pm with not so good news.
Apparently an injector malfunctioned and caused this whole mess. Had fuel coming out of the exhaust.
So basically, need 3 new spark plugs, new injector, some new filter (can't remember what it was. will know more tomorrow).
Im also getting new spark plug leads (apparently mine are very old and need replacing)...
They told me $1000 bill. lets wait and see what was actually done. So not happy.
