Hello all..

well my c.v.s arrived 2 weeks ago, and my v6 discs, calipers and hoses arrived the other day... and i just bought a shiny new 32mm 1/2" socket (or was it 34?)... shame about the weather though :(

do i fill the center of the c.v with grease or just the boot or what? they seem to of come with about half the grease i need... and one of the metal locking tie things is too short :( bloody ebay.. off to supercheap i go :(

ok... seeing as its all gunna be off.. the v6 non-abs gear will just bolt straight on right? do i need to take off my backing plate or is that only for the abs gear? oh poo, im gunna need some brake fluid and a one man bleeder kit... back to supercheap...

thankyou all...

p.s. anyone know the sizes of the 4cyl/6cyl/ABS discs off the top of theyre heads?

You pack the joint with the grease and the rest goes in the boot. I assume you got a plastic bag full of grease with the joints.
V6 runs 15 inch wheels whereas the 2.6 4 cyl runs 14 inch wheels because the rotors on the v6 are bigger. You might need the caliper bracket that bolts to the knuckle as well to keep the calliper to disc alignment correct.

I've got one of each - 2.6 non ABS with single pot calipers and a V6 with ABS twin pot calipers, and honestly I would not want to have the twin pot calipers on the 4 cylinder without ABS as it would be far too easy to lock up the front brakes. As it is now I thump the ABS brakes because I know the wheels won't lock up, but if I forget I'm driving the non-ABS car and hit the brakes in a similar manner I get massive lockup. I'd hate to think how the twin pot calipers would go without ABS on a car with a lighter front end.

Sorry mate, wrong on a few accounts

The 4cyl with twins is fine and will not just lock up.

You are right however, you do need to change the brackets when you upgrade rotors, the actual caliper is identical, it is the bracket that moves the caliper out to accomodate the larger diameter rotor.

In short,

4cyl GLX, Exec, and SE all have the 256mm
4cyl Elite and ALL V6 have the 276mm rotor

I great move is to change not only the rotor and caliper bracket but also to upgrade the lower control arm assy as these are also a better set up.

Yep need the caliper bracket too..

LOL I locked mine up once because I was being a tool. Besides that there is not one downgrade in having twin pots on the front in a non ABS model.

does anyone know the difference in offset? if the calipers the same im just gunna have to make a spacer....

haha.. i had a rwd 626 and if you stomped on the accelerator and the brake at the same time you could do a foot on from about a 50k rolling start... only problem was it pissed out more smoke from the front wheels than the back and it sledged like a bitch..... mabye it had something to do with the pair of vice grips on the rear brake line :s
