Hi all do the 96 TE magnas have some sort of factory immobiliser? Im getting an alarm fitted on Friday and I asked if the auto arming immobilser can be turned off and the guy said that this wouldnt be govt approved and I said that the car has a factory passive immob. When i bought it there were stickers on the rear side windows stating it did but the tinter removed them. Can someone please let me know asap in regards to this. BTW it has factory cent locking if it makes any difference... Cheers shaun

All i know when it comes to factory immobilisers in the TE range, the key has an inbuilt mircochip. Therefore if you want to start it you must use the right key...

Ok is it just me or does what im saying above sound REALLY dumb? but im sure you get the idea. The immobiliser is built into the key.

you're right, i think. My TF has a factory immobiliser that can only be deactivated by the correct key, when the key is stuck in the ignition it sends a signal out to the immobiliser, if the code the key sends out is the correct on (the code the immobiliser is programmed to accept) the immobiliser is deactivated, and hey presto the car starts.
Mate i wouldn't worry bout having the factory immobiliser turned off (if it can be?) i got an aftermarket alarm fitted, it contains 2 immobilisers the work off thier own remote (which is also connected to the factory central locking) plus the immobiliser built in to the key. it's only extra security and doesn't affect the aftermarket alarm in any way.

I think what i wrote above was correct, at least thats what mitsubishi told me when i asked them about the existence of a factory immobiliser. If what was written above is wrong, disregard.

Yeah you guys are right.

The key contains the programming to turn off the imobiliser and in the later models, the remote containes the programming for the alarm.

The bad thing about this is that if you want a spare key, Mitsubishi are all too happy to charge you in excess of $30 for it.

$30????? who where you talking to? thats god as. I rang them and they wanted $92 for one and he said that you can only get them from mitsu. But i spoke to a lock smith who rekoned he could get the keys with chip and program them for me for a fraction of that...
