Alright, I have to get an aftermarket standalone ECU for my car, the wiring loom and ecu I got is wrong (dont ask..Im pissed about it!!) Anyway, I'm looking at either the yet to be released C-66 from Hawk EMS or the Microtech MT8, dont know much about the latter though.

I cant find any information on it...I've searched for a website...but all I find is cars with them in it. Anyone have any info on it?

Also, Im not interested in Haltech, Motec, Wolf3d or anything else, unless it's 1500 bucks or under and it comes with everything and it's standalone.

Cheers!!

You can get haltechs for less that 1500 with everything you need, its just not the E6K model. EMS are a good make, I have a ECU guide in a hot 4's mag from a while back which i could scan in if i can dig it up.

I dont know if the lower models will do everything though? Arent they just a/f controllers?

Anyways, I'll check out Haltech's site again and see what they have on offer. I was of the understanding that the E6K/X was the only fully standalone system they had.

Cheers Blake.

Going to use the stock computer for now, if they can get that running then I can piggyback later.

The problem with aftermarket ecu's is that they are all illegal, simply because they are adjustable. I've confirmed this with the RTA, some people said to me (not on here) that if you get it emissions tested and it passes then it's ok, but that's not true. You can get it emissions tested and as soon as you leave, change maps. So they're illegal, which means if I had an accident and they found it all insurace would be void as the car isn't roadworthy etc.

So yeah, for now I'm going to use the stock one, which will keep the car legit. :D

funny you say that, cos ive DECLAIRED ALL my modifications including the turbo setup to Shannons, and even TOLD THEM that some parts are infact illegal (i did this cos i dont want to pay insurance on items they wont insure...) namely, the haltech, rim size, ride height etc, and they were very understanding, and did not argue. ive specifically asked them to type that all my modifications including the illegal mod's into the insurance policy, and yep, its all there. so no matter how "illegal" my car is, its insured.. and its all on paper! they even stated on the papers that and quote "all detonotes indiciate modifications that are not endorced by the northern territory road transport authority, however are included fully insured under this insurance policy" and that is what makes me sleep easier at night :D :bowrofl:

Yeah so the car is insured, fine. BUT are you covered if you're driving a car that's unroadworthy and you hit someone?

I highly doubt it. I dont see how you can be covered for driving an unroadworthy vehicle on the road.

You can insure any car, doesnt have to be on road or even registered. Im talking about something different.

Avoid Microtech as I have said before.
Haltech have the name, best to go with what is good.
As for legality, I am sure Shannons, if they are aware of all the mods will still insure, however they would have to answer that
what I would be worried about is the Third Party insurance that you pay with your rego that covers injury, you may find your self out on a limb there.

I dont think they r illegal? they r ok in England. The only thing you should worry about is warranties and servicing.Emmisions should acctually be better seeing your car is getting retuned to its maximum efficencey.Just make sure you declare or your mods to your insurer, they wont insure illegal cars would they??

I KNOW for a fact they are illegal. I rang the RTA a few times to make sure (they usually contradict if you ring more than once...this time they didnt) I also rang a few tuners to find out and they said the same thing.

As it stands at the moment I wont be going aftermarket anyway, I'm going to get the factory one working. That way I have it on the road legally and I dont have to worry about anything. :D

Thanks for the help anyway! :D

this rule must be new, theres way to many vehicles that have had too many bucketloads of cash on mods including ecu's to be going uninsured on the road. i mean theres cars with worth 100'000 out there running programmable computers.
btw kb, of the cheaper ecu's u mentioned, i'd go haltech bec they are known reliable they make a lot of other electronic gear for a long time.

Haltech isnt a cheaper one that I mentioned...lol

Haltech is quite expensive.
