Does anyone know if there are any head units that will allow me to retain the steering wheel controls on my 99 Verada?? Standard system sounds OK.. but would like to upgrade it if I can keep the other features.

Would only be OEM HU's from Mitsi - you could try ringing the Mitsi Clearance place in Adelaide to see if Caine has any new-old-stock that's an improvement over what you have.

You'd have to be careful with that even - I have superficially-similar HU's from the Clearance place, but in one case the "security code" function isn't present - and, crucially, then connector where remote steering controls and Mute wire connect is deleted from the HU backplate.

Search for the Diamante compatible unit on the PAC website.

You need a compatible headunit...... I have seen SOME JVC units that do this but my one is a decent single DIN model (pretty recent) and doesn't support it.

You will need to buy an adapter that converts the single-wire signal that comes out of your steering wheel controls into something that your headunit will understand

Good luck!

On ebay for about $100, they will basically manipulate the remote control signal, so you have to place a small infa red (size of an LED) transmitter pointing to the HU and it mimics the actions of your remote control, well thats one way anyway

That's really cool, never seen them before. The adapter I was talking about takes the steering controls and you end up with a small stereo jack that will plug into compatible headunits.

Link to said converter please tuffy?

No sony headunit's will work with magna / diamante steering wheel audio controls. I learnt this the hard way after being told by WOW that it would.

To my knowledge, most pioneers will work with the adaptor.

You do need to source a head unit with 'remote in'. Its a 3.5 mm jack on the rear of a H/U marked remote.

But the infrared adapter doesn't need it. Only the wired kit.

I am guessing a wired kit would be neater yeah?? IR is gunna need to point to the unit where wired should be able to all go in behind?? or at least thats what I am hoping lol :)

The IR unit need to point to the front of the head unit. So you mount it in your glove boc and just poke a little hole so it can see out.
I'm pretty sure Stinger have these

I have installed the PAC infrared system in my KH.

My headunit does not support a wired remote, but that it not the reason i opted for the infrared system.

The good thing about the infrared system is that the system will be compatible regardless of what headunit you have.

So even if u upgrade, the adapter will still work.

Three wires to connect - Acc, earth, and the remote wire.

Once connect, you use the headunit remote to teach the system the functions.

My infrared sits just under the gear shifter surround - very hidden, and no cutting, or drilling.
