Hi guys.. I'm currently making a custom console dash thingy as pictured below.. The trouble is that the A/C controls get in the way of where I plan on putting a dual-din HU. I've done a bit of searching around but to no luck, and I don't even know if what I'm looking for exists.. I've drawn in mspaint with my awesome skills the side view of what I'm looking for. It's a dual-din unit that when you look at it from the side is shaped like an upside-down "L".

Would be appreciated if anyone has seen or knows of what I'm chasing.

dont think theres such a thing mate,
double din units are normally a big square box
maybe look at making a carpc? or a single din flip out screen?

Are you saying the AC controls in their factory position stop you from being able to fit a standard double din headunit?

He's modded the earlier AC controls into a TL fascia: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68589

Correct.

I don't like the idea of a car pc because they take a million years to boot up, and most of my trips are short, unless it's raining which i ditch my motorbike in favor of the car. I suppose a screen would fit in there proper and flush like.

Such a thing does not exist. You'd be better off trying to mod your AC to allow for space. Or put in a dingle din flip out screen up the top with a pocket below.

Does exist actually mate

Now i know its Eonon, and their quality isnt sky high but it seems to be the right sorta thing for you. Would be a bit too big, but given your apparent skills in fabricating you might very well be able to make it work.

EDIT: further if you look throught their site, they have a bunch of products that would be auitable to your needs mate. Most of them arent 7inch but hey better than nothing.

Yeah I saw that brand advertised alot on ebay. They mainly focused on mainly fitted aftermarket head units to cars that have non standard units.

I have no skills fabricating.. first time actually. Just measuring twice and cuting once... I'm thinking about redoing the console and getting the angle alittle more user friendly.

I meant fabricating skills as in you have customised the console lay-out, looks good by the way. They sell a few products that would suit you, not all so big there is a 7inch screen which is a sinlge din install, only the screen takes up the double din front. They offer 2 yr warranty so that shouldnt be a problem.

Just read and watched a whole lot of reviews on the Eonon brand, as good as your intentions are I'm going to have to pass. Their gui's are **** too, and I'm all about the gui. Just gotta check the higher quality vendot sites now :P

Looks like I'll be cutting and remounting tomorrow, followed by another week of bogging and sanding back and countless test fits. Ahh the things you do for individuality :D

You could install a carpc and just put a LCD in that space - clearance shouldnt be an issue.
If you didnt want to fabricate you could get a 2din kit from here:

That will fit perfectly, but I'm against carpc's on the account of their slow startup times, unless someone can vouch otherwise. Tomorrow I'll be grinding back and levelling out the back of the dash in order to level out the a/c controls. From the looks of it I'm able to shave about 5mm from the top of the a/c controls which will give me a bit of leeway. I'd post pics but I was too lazy to take any.

If it turns out alright I am willing to send it off to where ever to have a mould made up of it, providing cost is minimal. Still have to work out the metal mounting brackets behind the fascia, but I'm confident that the TL ones will go right in.

EDIT: Just read your CarPC thread.. You've aroused my interests.

Hehe, I have a very ugly display at the moment, if the aus dollar gets above 0.86 US I've promised myself to buy one of those 2din displays from bybyte (don't trust myself fabricating).

As Righty said, it doesn't - more to the point shouldn't exist :facejump:

Im confused mate, what the bloke was asking for was a double din screen that would fit it given the intrusion of his AC unit, what i suggested whether or not its great quality would have fitted. Therefore it does exist, Righty was wrong in saying something like that does not exist.

I think he meant the actual shape he has drawn didnt exist (the L shape din thing).... That eonon screen is actually a single din, but the screen took up 2 din spots...

Just a random question, wth does 'din' actually stand for?!

Its not an acronym from what i know, it means ISO 7736. The internalional standard for the size of a car audio player.
