Does anyone know which Magnas/Veradas (TE/TK/JK/TL/KW/Sports/4 speed /tiptronic etc) DON'T have the dreaded wave spring that breaks. looking for an additional Magna/Verada and want to avoid this issue. My Magna had box rebuilt at about 46000km and I think waves spring breaking was the cause. At first I was concerned when I found the invoice for complete auto tranny rebuild days after I had bought the car I thought was in almost perfect nick. Phoned the tranny shop, but there were new owners and they did not have the records. Bought the car at 75000km and now at 137 000km and tranny is great.

Can't be sure - my tranny repairers thought that they replaced broken wave-spring with an "older" spec, but when questioned they were not really sure.

They buy rebuild bits from tranny wholesalers, not from Mitsi - but they never replace a "thin/3-layer" wave-spring with the same thing, they always obtain a "thicker/one-layer" wave-spring....... so for my rebuild from this local family business, i am confident that my tranny will be with me for quite a while yet. (don't get too excited to quote me on this, I chose the wording out of fun).

Possibly ring Mitsi customer service and ask for technical advice?

Yep, those quoted were the carefully-chosen words! Just fun.

For OP, I'm not sure what we can do to work out which cars have the type of wave-spring which seems troublesome.
I know I checked at Spare Parts counter while my car was getting a quality non-Dealer rebuild. As I recall, the wave-spring component had been "revised" in the parts system at least twice since my 2000 KJ was built, up to the time the trans failed (2008). However, I cannot find the note I made of revised part numbers and dates they changed. That parts system had no detail of the part in diagrams, and there was no way to tell if any change of part number in the spares system was linked to a physical change in the wave-spring.

Unless someone technical at Mitsy factory was cooperative, just don't know how we'd work it out..... unless a member is a specialist Mitsy transmission rebuilder (in which case he possibly has a busy working life ahead of him).
