hi all,
i'm having problems starting the car after an SKR flash tune.
I sent the ECU away last week, was flashed, came back, installed and no start. talked to steve and he thought he accidently changed an immobiliser setting, so it's been back, re-flashed, but still won't start. It cranks over fine, battery is good, all other electrics work, and the car was running fine before this. If i turn the ignition to 'ON', the engine light comes back on and stays on.
i think this may be the first flash he's done via mail , ie. ECU not in the car... would this cause a problem, flashing it while not being connected to the BCM/Immobiliser?? some security feature perhaps? any ideas?
going to call steve in the morning, and maybe a mitsu service centre to see if they can help also

I'm gonna guess that you just said the answer. Not being connected to the BCM for the flash may cause some issues as the BCM would have to recognise the ECU that you unplugged. Lets us know how you go.

You should have just got him to switch off the imobiliser.
We put a TJ ecu into my car 2 weeks ago and did the full tune on my donkey engine and as i didnt change the BEM we just chose to "switch" the imobiliser off (the factory TH-TW alarm etc still works though).

ok thanks, i'll ask him to do that. i wonder why it would throw mine out of sync with the BEM? (if that is the problem), did you flash your new TJ ecu while hooked up in the car, or while it was out?

Did one in the car and one out. Once the imobiliser is switched off the ECU can be used in any car as long as it matchs the same configuration. E.g manual to manual or auto to auto.

Steve cracked my original TH ECU "on the bench" (it wasnt in the car) back in 2000, so i know he can do it BUT he did switch my imobilliser link off.

Interesting. Had to replace ECU in my TJ (bought it as a flood damaged car). I had to replace also the ignition barrel and key and the BEM/BCM as these have to be matched set. So, If I undertand correctly, I could have sent a suitable ECU to Steve, and he could have deactivated the Immobiliser. At the time i could easily and cheaply source an ECU from wreckers, but all the goodies (matching) was harder to find and a lot more pricey. Looking to get another flood damaged Magna/Verada/380 and most times with these the ECU is useless. If immobiliser does not work, does not bother me, or could fit aftermarket immobiliser.

Yes. My Magna hasnt had the factory immobiliser working since 2000, as i said the factory TH "alarm" still works though.
As for the 380, Steve cant not yet access the 380 ECU as its a different setup (brand) to the magna/veradas
ok thanks, this is the car's original ecu so hopefully this should work
Any luck?

Give him a call. It varies depending on how much time you spend on the dyno.

i meant more this GT tunes or whatever they are called, where he just sends you the ecu with the adjusted tune without putting your car on the dyno etc

Sorry, no idea about the changeover tune but i would suggest to go over there and dyno the car for best results.

sent the ecu back in the post today, talked to steve on the phone, he couldn't figure out why it shouldn't work, he's never had a problem like this before. He's going to disable the immobiliser, double check the settings and try it in a car; so it'll be back in a day or two.
cost varies i think depending on how much work's needed on the tune, yep call him.
good no probs, i'm sure it'll be sorted.

yep it's going now, just had to bypass the immobiliser, there was something setting it off.
good seat of pants gains/driveability, high flow cat going in wed/dyno to follow.
ps someone mentioned in another thread about auto box shifting; i did ask steve.. said he didn't have the info to do this yet but would look into it. maybe he could flash the ralliart magna auto code in

Yeah that was me. Just wondered if it was possible to get these AWD's out of slug shift mode to something a little more throttle rersponsive.

Told ya that would fix it but its unusual that you had issues with the immobiliser.
Good to hear your happy with the gains/driveability so far.
