hi.

after a few phone calls, i decided to get an ebay clutch with 20% extra clamp force on the pressure plate for $480 including post. (it was the best val for money)

now i am after some tech help.
i have a few questions:

1: is there anyway some body could give me a walkthrough on how to change a clutch in my te 3.0l?

(after my seaching i found one mention of a "clip"?? i dont know what this is....
also, how heavy it the box? could to guy get it out without a hoist?
or if possible photocopies/scans of a manual.)

2: what is the go with machining the fly? i have no shuddering on take off (or really little). do i need to get it done. like DEFINITELY need it done? what happens if i dont? (assuming it is in alright condition, at 160xxxkm's)

thanks

just did the clutch on ym th the clip they are talking bout is on the thrust bearing if you look at your new clutch push the bearing into the pressure plate and you will see how the clip has to be pushed in as you pull out the bearing....

basiclly you need to jack the engine up slightly while car on axle stands drain gear box oil undo gearbox mounts undo bellhousing bolts there was 2 little plates near where the gear box and block meet take them off think 14mm bolts slide the gerabox out as much as possicle then 2 long screwdrivers adn you can push the clip in rest is failrly simple

hope i helped somewhat

If your clutch kit didn't come with a crankshaft spigot bearing make sure you check and or replace the one thats in there before you put it back together.

Probably $10-$20 from any bearing supplies shop. Older cars (from the 70's-early 80's) used a sintered bronze type bearing however most cars now a days use a sealed ball type bearing. The bearing part number will be on the edge of bearing housing. If you PM MADMAGNA he could probably supply the info.

yeh most clutch kits already come with the bearing i would say based one xperience in most cases always better to replace bearing just to be on the safe side

RE: machining flywheel.
Didn't do mine on 2nd gen as there were no grooves from rivets digging into it, and there were no burnt areas. The clutch cover took all the damage, rivet gauges and blue burnt areas. Cleaned flywheel with turps and reassembled with new clutch kit, works as good as new.

PS Gen2 2.6 doesn't have a bearing in the crank to support the gearbox input shaft. Does a gen 3 have one?

The Max Ellery Magna / Verada 91-2005 workshop manual makes mention of it in the 3.0 engine rebuild and clutch install section.
