I know some of the later model magnas come with tiptronic transmission, is it possible to put one in my KS Verada?

The location of the gearbox has nothing to do with it. Its all in the shifter mechanism and the TCU unit.

hehe. Well to further that point - aren't the second gen 4 speeds a different gearbox? Or is the third gen simply the same box with INVECS? Would've thought the 3spd + overdrive is different to the 4 speed.

The 4th gear on the 3rd gens is the OD gear. Any gear with a smaller than 1:1 ratio is an OD. 1:1 and bigger are reduction gears. The 2nd gens just had an electric override to prevent the gear box using it.
