was playing with the car today and thought this may be of interest for others. the s3 vrx front bar insert will fit directly onto a s1 or s2 bar as the s3 bar is actaually a s1/2 bar but with the insert screwed straight onto it.

heres the pics.

Hey Dan,

Can you please tell what the part number is on the label? I want to investigate prices.

Yea, that sounds fairly expensive. You sure they quoted you for the insert and not the whole front bumper?

In manufacturing cost the insert probably wouldn't even come close to $100....

$600, definite. Got the insert priced when my car was in for repairs, was gonna go for facelift.

Bumper $342, upper grille $209, lower grille (S1 grille) $29, S3 Insert $600.

Probably don't have many left as spare parts in storage, so they price it to stop people buying them to facelift their earlier models.

I think you will find they are expensive in an attempt to ensure that people who purchased a VRX have this front exclusively, nothing worse than a cheap knock off if you have spend the big money.

They figure if you have a VRX and need a new grill the insurance company are paying so its price does not matter much.

Would have been nice if instead of trying to make the VRX different maybe they could of consentrated on making there supossibly top of line GT significantly different , they all basically look the same which is a bit dissapointing when you have a gt

Yeah, I wondered why they enhanced the VRX in S3 so much when the GT was left looking like it did in S1 for the most part. Even the TMR vehicles used a S3 VRX as the donor car, why weren't they based on GT's? It doesn't make sense. Still, the S3 VRX won me over when I was looking for a 380, the bumpers, the wheels, it was the pick of the bunch visually.

I noticed that too (the lack of changes in GT), and can only guess that the higher priced GT perhaps did'nt sell well enough so was left alone. Does that mean that VRX was the biggest selling model (or at least outselling GT?) and that's why it scored all the attention?
GT should have been the flagship with all the exclusive alterations not available to other models.

Under Series III, GT was no longer the only car more expensive than a VRX, there was also the GTL.

Therefore as there was both the GT and the GTL demand must have existed.

Yes I recall the GTL. Wasn't that just a luxury model? (although GT was supposed to have all options). If so, what happened to LX in Series 3? (Series 1 had LX and LS). Why didn't they just call it Verada? They kept the VRX name.

"VRX" wasn't exclusively related to the Magna range, Veradas were.

Grandis, Outlander, Pajero
Therefore as there was both the GT and the GTL demand must have existed. That the 380 is out of production doesn't really support that.

Well, got a quote for a S3 lower grill today to see if I could get it any cheaper. The quote came back around the $600 mark. The crash repairer was like :wtf: and was wondering why they are soo expensive.

I did leave my details with him just incase a smashed up s3 380 VRX does make it way to his crash repairer

Perhaps if anyone has close connections with a wrecker. A rear or side written-off S3 VRX could possibly provide that grille at lower price. Of course these things don't get written off everyday, but one ought to turn up somewhere sooner or later.
