So has any one attempted to upgrade to HID
I have found a ebay seller with them for $3.99 + $70 from HK
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/12V-35W-HID-XENON-kit-H1-H3-H4-H7-H8-H9-H10-H11-H13_W0QQitemZ220433246170QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car _Parts_Accessories?hash=item3352d867da&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C 301%3A1%7C293%3A5%7C294%3A50
I would love to have them in the GT as it was one of the things the Aurion did have
He is selling them with the E marker on them which I think is the difference between a defect notice and ADR
(All Aussie globes that are ADR compliant are marked with an E I think I will double check with ADR site)

13/00 E marked bulbs in E marked lamps
Q48. Must E marked lamps be fitted with E marked bulbs?
No. The bulbs need only meet the evidence requirements for ADR51/00.
13/00 E marks on lamps
Q49. Is the RAW expected to verify authenticity of E marks on a vehicle?
No only that they match the evidence held.
'E' marked and U.V. cut: Globes carrying this prefix in the catalogue are built and engineered to comply with European ECE specification and comply with ADR51/00
Found it here

Dude, Aurions have Xenon projector headlights. You're talking about putting a HID kit into a reflector headlight casing. This action is generally frowned upon and can cause poor light throw and blinding to oncoming traffic.

the E marking is for the euro market and has no weight here in australia
you wont get the same intensity as the aurion light, but it will be better than the std halogen, or even the higher colour temp bulbs (which most are also non ADR compliant due to failing the lifespan test)
to be legal the HID's really need to be accompanied by a headlight washing system and headlamp phare control... then im guessing a run over the pits to get it approved
if the GT doesnt have globe shields then i wouldnt recommend the upgrade
im not a fan of free form lights getting the HID overhaul... can be too glarey
beware of cheap kits, the electronics usually fry soon after warranty
4200K to 6000K are a good choice, with 4200K being the std for HID
also take it to someone who has a headlight focusing machine (not a wall with a line) and have them focused down until the hotpoint is where it needs to be (usually -2 in leiu of -1) as this is usually where most installs go wrong and cause shadowing/glare
i have converted many vehicles over and the results have been awesome, all happy customers, no stickers/infringements, no little to agro from other drivers

Sounds like your only chance would be to get hold of a set of Ralliart Galant projector headlights & bonnet to match from the US for this to work.

The HID's that are factory fitted on the outlander VRX still use reflector headlight casings.

I have a feeling that the guards are different too Foozr. So you would need those as well.

Yes, but they're designed from the factory to use them. There's a big difference.

For your info they use the same reflector "casing" as the non HID headlight (same part number)
Anyway some cars that ive driven with HID's have been great (audi, bmw) and some ive driven have been quite average (my old MPS3 mazda, 2007 wrx), they were all factory fit HID's as well.

Same casing, ok. Probably designed from the factory to run HIDs as they knew their flagship model would have these. No 380 model has HID lights from the factory, therefore I stand by what I said, and another user has already verified my prediction with practical application.

Well it was a 380 say no more...... there headlights just seem to be wrong all together.
At the end of the day i dont think HID's are be all n end all when it comes to headlights (particularly in Australia's wide open areas), especially if reflector style lights have a nice sized reflector (BA-FG falcon, TL/TW magna, VY-VE commodore etc) Ive found the stock headlight on my FG to be miles infront of the HID's that were on my MPS and my magna....well we all know that the "parbolic" headlights have a crap beam no matter what ya do to them lol

I find my TL lights quite poor when compared to the headlights in my EVO. The EVO headlights have a very concise and definite lit area - you can see the arc where the light stops. The parabolics on my old Ralliart were bloody hopeless. The EVO only has projector headlights with a turquoise lens and I think it still uses a halogen bulb, tho I'm not sure, but the lights are bloody great.
