Hi guys

Has anyone replaced a trans filter before? I've looked at the workshop manual and it doesn't describe replacing the filter, only the fluid.

I've done it on other cars and it's been as simple as removing the sump plate and changing the filter, but from the limited pictures in the manual the filter looks buried inside the trans somewhere?

Just wondering if i can have a go myself.

When I asked my mechanic to do this, he said he took the sump plate off and there was no trans filter for my TL. I think they're internal and don't need to be changed.

Yeah upto and inc the TH/KH they had an external filter as well as an internal one.
Onwards from there, they just had the internal one which can't be changed without pulling out the transmission and opening her up.
Bad design. Just give her regular good transmission flushes and she will be fine.

Hmm - ok. The service book says to replace it though.

Meh, might just take the sump off and get the high pressure hose in there to clean it all out!!!

joking.

Service book from Mitsubishi?
Those things are useless and just a guide.
Mine says change the Diesel filters every service. Hmm, Dont think she is a Diesel.

Put an inline filter in teh transmission cooler lines, readily available from any parts store.
Change when flushing trans.
