hey all. i left for work this morning and as i put my car into drive it took a few revs to get the car to go into gear. after that it was all down hill. it was really hard to get it to do much at all. it still drove once i got it going but about 15 mins into the trip i noticed the light for neutral was flashing on my dash and the car appeared to be stuck in 3rd. i limped the car home and took it for a short drive about an hour later and it was still doing the same thing only it wasnt stuck in 3rd. about half way through my trip "round the block" it started to kinda behave and by the time i got home it was back to its normal self. i checked the tranny fluid while the engine was running like the gregorys book says to and it's level is fine. anyone know what might be going on? im taking the car for another bog lap to see if its still playing up in about half an hour or so. any help would be much appreciated

Stop driving it so much if it's playing up. What did the fluid look like? A nice pink, or was it more brown?

Yeh it's supposed to be pinky/reddish (drop a bit on some white tissue to make it more clear)
I'd say you need to get that serviced! Any idea when it was last done?

As above mate, it's meant to be a pink/red colour. Brown means it's shagged. Get it serviced ASAP!

i have no idea when the last tranny service was done. the car is at the mechanics now and they are gonna "look" at it and let me know what the problem is. hopefully it will be something simple and wont cost me the earth. my wife is about ready to kill me coz the magna has cost us a fortune in repairs.

Any car will cost a fortune to repair if it's not looked after mate. Ring your mechanic and tell him the transmission needs to be flushed with genuine Mitsubishi auto transmission fluid. I would say that will fix the tranny up quick smart if it's done properly.

Yes, make sure it is flushed. If he can't do it, take it elsewhere. Power flushing should use around 15 litres of tranny fluid. All up should be around 200 bucks.

just got my car back. the mechanic said it needs flushing. confirming what you have all been saying. its gonna cost $150 so its gonna have to wait till thursday or even the weekend :( since i dont get paid till wednesday night. they only use mitsubishi oil on mitsubishi's. the guy seems to know alot about mitsubishi motors which is handy. for anyone thats interested its at ultra tune in ellenbrook. i didnt even know they existed until today :P anyways the guy said that the fluid is really burnt and is in desperate need of flushing so thats what im gonna do.
