Long story short, are there any parts from the pajero evolution 6g74 that are useful to a 6g74 magna? they make good power factory from a non turbo 3.5, and although i'm sure that there'd be some head / piston chages, are any bits usable?

Pretty sure most of the bits are usable, including whats required to convert the SOHC 6G74 to DOHC. Thats going purely by word of mouth though, and I think Grelise is doing some work to his engine with Pajero parts.

Timing belt and components are the same, pistons may be different and heads are certainly different as they are MIVEC.
if you do find these parts for sale let me know :P

ok, so it wasnt as dumb as i thought! I imagine this would be a good engine swap in a magna since they hit 206kw factory in the pajeros... I'll never do it to mine, unless some whacky series of events leads to me getting a new engine and finding a lot of cheap pajero evo parts though.

Would it be fair of me to say the bottom end is the same, heads/cams/probably pistons and definately ecu etc would be different, probably different throttle body / intake manifold?

engine swap would be difficult, engines are north/south setup for AWD running gear.

but if possible it would be awesome!!

i imagine swapping parts would be easier than the whole motor. keep the magna bottom end and work the top....

Wont be hard at all, 3rd gen intake manifold (or 3000GT one) and use a 3000GT sump or modify the AWD one for FWD. Shouldnt be that much too it really, o and new exhaust manifolds ($~100 US)

The comp ratio would be 10.0:1 or higher, surely.

For similar money you can make at least that as much power as the EVO from our version sohc 3.5. Pistons, tidy heads, balance, cams, manifold and zorst will get you very close. That and the DOHC Pajero heads and plenum wont fit under your bonnet.

Just look at JasonsVRX. Pretty much what you said, over 190kW. And cheap if you do as much work as you can yourself!

Correct Ian, with those mods a magna sohc3.5 would make pretty close to the "evo G674's" flywheel power output at the wheels instead.

Thing is, this motor stock will put out a decent amount of power, any other mods will only send the number through the roof

To a certain point only though and then they will start to even out, due to the fact that the evo G674 is already reasonably worked from factory.... also ever tried to source or priced a set of 4 "performance" full Mivec cams (not the watered down versions of mivec that is used on NON evo engines) for one, be prepared to lube your bumhole and then bend over and touch ya toes

mmmmm nope But but I know 4 x DOHC cams will tear me about $1200 in the pooper.
Aside from that, if anyone could do it it would be a sweet conversion. I like people thinking outside the box, and then painting the rocker covers red:P

So you do know that red painted rocker covers will give ya 15-20kws more power when compared to black ones lol

i'm sure a bonnet bulge like the BA/BF/FG Falcon might allow everything to fit under the bonnet....

I'm pretty sure the DOHC heads and plenum will fit no worries. My 3.5L sits about 1.5"-2" lower then the SOHC.

ScreamingTE had the heads etc all lined up and there was little likelihood of it working with a bonnet on. A bonnet bulge would need to be more rhs orientated too - look cr ap.

Fair enough....did he use a 3000GT intake manifold? Sits directly over the rear rocker cover and sits flatter then a 3rd gen one

Naturally living up the road from me he was banking on a Streetfighter manifold

Ahh...Unless for some strange reason the 3rd gen motor just SITS higher, but who knows until someone actually does it.

hmm...if only I was the adventurous type...

Currently own a 2nd gen TS with a 6G72, and about to pick up (on Saturday) a 2nd gen Pajero with a 6G74. Since I'll have the two in my backyard until the Magna is sold, I can pretty easily take a few measurements if anyone can tell what precisely would be of most benefit in determining whether it would work or not.

I doubt there would be anything of value unless the motor itself was placed in a 2-3rd gen and the various intake manifolds bolted up really

Have a look at the 3Si site.
Lots of info about manifolds, oil pumps etc.

This to me sounds like a good excuse to get a absolutly pants-wetting falcon-style bonnet rise =]

me and EZ were talking about this the other day, it is what i was planning for my magna before i got a falcon, there are fibreglass bulges for sale on ebay. it might be worth a look

we think the bulge might be too big for a magna, it might overpower the look of a magna. but if it means extra performance its worth a crack
