Hey all,

I was just wondering what type of fuel consumption other Magna's are getting?

I have a 99 KH Verada and I swear there is something wrong with the figures I'm returning.

Under ordinary city driving (not putting the foot down once) I average 16.7 lts per 100 km. Sometimes it gets down to about 15.5 but never less than that. I usually get 380km per tank but not more than that.

Could you please post your consumption figures and km per tank. Also any suggestion why it may be excessive? I know its high because at work I drive a VY Berlina which I am not kind to (I get a heavy foot) and I still only use 13 lt per 100km and I don't drive the Verada at all like this. Go figure?

hey,

my vrx does an average 13L/100km... but i do a lot of driving on the m4, so it often goes down to 11-12... and yer, i'm a lil heavy footed too :P

my mum's KE verada is heaps fuel hungry, does about 16L/100km too :P i dunno why.

Don't quote me on this, but my dad said something about the (stock) airfilter being too restrictive in the verada, so it compensates by using more fuel or something :P.

lol, maybe i'm not the best to be replying to this question, but yer, thot i might add my 2 cents.

Not just the veradas. Under normal urban city driving i get on average 350km on my TF magna. I do touch the pedal hard sometimes but not eveyr single time i drive.

This is normal id imagine since its auto and a v6 and a HEAVY bastard.

I'm one of those nerds who has a fuel consumption spreadsheet. Figures I've got listed are - Highest average Fuel consumption 14.63L/100km, Average average 11.67L/km, and lowest 9.26L/km. These are worked out on a tank by tank basis. So far figures are collected over 9034km, using 1025 L of fuel, over 4 months. I do a reasonable ammount of country driving, but half my kms would still be in teh city. City driving averages around 12L per 100 km. My vehicle is a TE Altera, 3.0L auto.

I don't know how accurate the trip computer is.. i dont really take much notice of petrol, i just fill up when ever i need to... but its sitting on Avg 14.3\100kms.. TH auto. I drive on the m5 every morning for around an hour tho in peak hour traffic so i guess it isn't too bad.

Yeah my trip computer sits on about 11.5 all the time and i drive her hard - although its not really city driving, i drive to gawler everyday..
probably averages about 500k per tank, and on a long country drive (ie. to melbourne with / without aircon i usually get aout 9.3l/100.)
my mother in law drives a TH exec auto though, hard, purely city driving and averages about 15.5 - 16 l /100.

I know its not a 3rd gen but I do 11L/100km in my 2.6L Magna GLX which is very good for a 2nd gen. I would have thought most V6 3rd gens would all be around the 12L/100km mark.

My trip computer is normally around the 12.somthing mark.

It'll drop down to 10.xx on the highway, occasionally spikes to ~13.5 average.

I have a heavy foot too. hehe

the other day i went 510kms on 52L, all city driving, but was driving it not as hard as usual :D

I average about 11L city driving (hard always, hehe) and probably 8-9L all highway.

City/highway combined im always around the 10 mark.
Cant complain really, uses less than my last car, 2L manual pintara :)

My TJ sports auto gets around 13L in town (canberra) with spirited driving :P

Can get up to 15L if I go nuts.

Highway with A/C on its 10-10.5. Ive gotten as low a 9L on the highway though.

My TJ Sports gave me slightly over 400kms with 1/4 of a tank left on Ultimate, city driving.. Manual tranny..

I do realise that if I gun the car once in a while, say 2-3 times a week, I get better mileage.... dunno why is that..

Hrmmm...

My fuel consumption is 11.8-13 city driven hard, 7.5-8 highway.

Fuel consumption went from 8.0 highway to 7.5 highway with filter and exhaust.

Never seen it lower than 7.5 yet on the highway, or higher than about 13.

Maybe my car is freaky - 3.5 litre Auto TJ Exec.

:) I'm pleased to see some precicion here.... I'm bit similar.
3 L Auto TE:
Lowest on pure HWY is just above 8 L / 100 km (2 ppl and trunk full)
Highest on daily trips to train station (2 km one way) and some shopping etc "family stuff" it varies 12-13 L / 100 km.
3.5 using 16-17? You must be gunning it 24/7....

I can't explain this one.

On the weekend I drove down to Harden with Optimax in the tank, averaging around the 10ltr per 100km (highway driving). Then because it is a country town, nobody had premium so was forced to use unleaded and on the way back averaged around 9.4.

Now with normal city driving it uses about 14 per 100km as opposed to 16 and above on premium. Has anyone else experienced this. I just thought Optimax was supposed to give better economy?

Black Beard
05-05-2004, 06:27 PM
Me, I get between 10.9 and 11.3 using premium petrol and having the aircon always on. All town driving (brisbane) but thankfully I miss out on heavy traffic because of my work hours.

hm i get 320 from a full tank if im lucky... :doubt: auto 4cyl... driving pretty sensible wid a few thrashings occasionally..it sux... any way i can improve my consumption??

Badmagna
06-05-2004, 07:25 PM
its extremely dependant on where you're driving, 50kph, stop light, 50 kph, stop light will give crapppp fuel economy, I even find thrashing my TH sports in Tiptronic mode gives similar results to driving like a granny (ok semi spirited granny) in auto mode ?

Also the fuel makes a big difference, I usually experience a little bit more punch with premimum in second gear, but the fuel economy is probably 10% less, even given identical driving conditions to normal.

Since being in Sydney where heaps of places shove ethonol down ya throat without ya knowing, I've noticed ethonol laced fuel sucks for economy, but normal "we say we don't add it, but we probably add a tiny weeny bit anyway" fuel gives better results.
When I fill up when I've been city /suburbs driving it says 540kms to empty on a full tank, country driving it says 750. Straight freeway I've had it down to 8L/100km with aircond on.

Woh!! I have exactly the same... 99 KH Verada. I do a mixture of hwy and city driving and get on average about 9.8 ltr per 100kms. When only doing highway driving the best I have got is 8.6 ltr per 100. On average I get between 660km and 700kms per tank (depending on how I drive) and best I have got is 720km.

I've got a 98 V6 advance.
Average city driving (In Sydney - 2k trip to bus stop + wknd driving, with 60% hard driving) i get 11.5 - 14L per 100k's. Best economy i've had is just under 9 litres, with 3 ppl in the car, a full boot and going at it hammer and tong trying to keep up with 2 V8 SS utes on a trip out to Condobilin in NSW.

i think they just want the average reading for a tank done in city type driving, and a tank done highway driving... or similar.... it would be to hard to guess what it is off the instant fuel reading... **** mines seen 98L/100 on that screen!!! (no its not a typo!)

as for mine... average 8.5 on hwy, 11.5-12 city

Around town normal driving average 13.5 L Or about 400km.

On higway, average around 8.5 L which is 700km +

I get between 580-700 k's a tank. When i fill up I usually still have about 8-10 litres in the tank. I noticed a big improvement in economy when I started using Caltes's vortex fuel, it craps over anything else in premium fuel for economy. Before vortex 550 was tops for a tank and that was driving mild. Now I drive pretty much flat out, as you do with a manual, and get 600k's plus constantly. I wont even use other fuel now besides caltex..
My car is stock standard.

Have you tried changing the fuel filter and/or getting the injectors/rails flushed (about $150 at Mitsubishi) because I get about 550 average per tank on a good batch of fuel, and thats with giving it a squirt here and there :D

Changing your fuel filter and having your injectors professionally cleaned is the best way to increase fuel economy. Especially with guys who are getting around 400 a tank, no way is that right...

if you drive 2-3 km's every trip and are always stuck in traffic with little or no highway travel (live near the city and work in the city), yes you would get 400kms or less out of a tank. i have got 700kms out of a tank on a trip from brisbane to sydney so i think that is an indicator that nothing is wrong with my fuel delivery system.

Have just finished a weekend trip from SE Melbourne to Winton Motor Raceway for Historic Winton meeting. Across to Shepparton to stay Saturday night. All in...664 klms. Used 63 litres which works out at 9.49L/100 or 29.77 mpg.

Not all that thrilling really although l guess the AWD must detract in the fuel consumption stakes to a degree.
