Thinking of installing front footwell lights.
Leaning towards 150mm red neons at the moment.
Was thinking of wiring them up to the ignition barrell light so they come on and go off with the interior lights.
Is this the best option for powering them or should I tap into the interior light wire which I understand runs down the drivers side A pillar? Not sure of which colour the power wire is yet.
Cheers

What model and trim-level is your car? Some cars without the inbuilt footwell lamps connected, actually have the wiring and bulb-holders in the loom but taped back out of the way. Using this "hidden" wiring would be by far the easiest option.
Use the "Search" feature of forums and you'll probably find lots of previous experience documented in varying degrees of detail.

Series 111 Vrx 2007.
Have searched extensively but could find nothing on the 380.
No obvious wiring loom under the dash!!

Had a look at the 380 Mitsi Workshop Manual links from this thread? << http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56815 >>
I have TJ and KJ, and the workshop manual has diagrams of where the various electrical looms are, in a section of the "Chassis Elewctrical" chapter, just before the actual Circuit diagrams.... I haven't looked at the 380 links, but assume they are similar.
I'd suggest having a look through that 380 manual, get an idea of where the looms run and the actual wiring diagram for room lamps etc. Does you car have no footwell illumination already? I'd have thought Series III and VRX spec would have got some "fruit salad" like footwell lights.
EDIT: Am downloading the 380 manuals now, but on sattelite broadband here (its sloooow) so will take hours.

Wow. Little things like that - which cannot cost too much, surely - make the 3rd gens a nice place to be, and the Verada especially so. Can't understand why a newer car loses some of the basic little touches.
Personally, the interior of a mate's 380 looks a bit barren and plastic-y to me, but I never suspected it was so stripped-out of features. (He's not into cars at all, and the interior is holding up badly to his use - scratched plastic, paint off door handles etc).

No footwell lights and no map lights in the rear.
Still A nicer drive than my previous verada
Will check the workshop manual for relative wires however still interested on opinions whether to hook up to interior light at A pillar or ignition barrel light at steering column remembering that the ignition light does not fade down like the rest.

Well, my TJ Sports had no footwell lamps, but I found the "hidden harness" connectors taped back at the dash loom after reading these forums.
So, self-serve wreckers provided bulb-holders and a coulpe of red LED bulbs and away I went.
Much more recently, I put the Ign key lamp in my TJ Sports and dad's TJ Exec. In these cases, the ign key lamp wires were run to A-pillar wires..... VERY happy with this mod.
In the same two cars, I had previously added the c-pillar reading lamps, and run wires to the A-pillar to get power for those as well. Only last week I noticed that the way I've done it, I can switch the overhead "room lamp" to be off with doors open, but this doesn't prevent the rear reading lamps from being lit - not a biggie (but it blows my cover on overnight stake-outs LOL).
If the 380 has the same basic wiring design, and has the handy-dandy "room lamp" wires running up the A-pillar - I'd go with that. You'll get the slight "wow" factor of footwells fading by the BEM, its a nice easy space to make the splice of the wiring, and footwells on with room lamp is always convenient IMHO.
EDIT: I have also used an LED kit from Kmart (of all places) for front/rear footwells of a TJ Exec. This was only about $20- and has been incredibly effective - the lamp bits (4) are self-stick which needs a dab of contact glue to revive when they fall off after a while. Think they were sold as an "under car" LED kit, and in my case we got blue. If they are available in RED, I'd recommend them. I bought 'em several years ago, but noticed them recently in KMart Balcktown while visiting Sydney.
Do any 380 models have the door courtesy/warning lamps? (the red ovals in 3rd Gen which we all seem to swap for clear lens).

hey Elwyn, just reading your thread about the rear pillar lights.....what i did was to run the power supply from the boot light ,run a seperate earth wire and for the switchable door i spliced another wire into the door light switch(the one near the rear arch)so another wire run from the door switch to the rear lamp, that way i had independent reading lights and lights that worked when the corresponding rear door opened...

Finally got round to installing. Purchased a set of undercar blue Leds (4 lights) from K Mart ($21.00).
Self adhesive. Mounted as follows. Rear seat by the front seat belt lower mount on the B pillar. Front passenger up behind the glove box lid and drivers side on cover under steering column.
Wired into fuse box on side of dash board drivers side. Two wiring looms come out of A pillar going to two connectors. Look for lower connector with three wires. Black (top wire), purple (middle wire) black and colour (???) bottom wire.
Earth goes to top black and active to bottom black. Splice in wires solder and tape.
They come on with roof lights and fade out with them.
Look good at night.

Naaa red would look crappy - it'll totally clash with the blue in the dash.
Blue footwells FTW!!

Thing is, that particular set of "under car" LEDs at KMart ONLY comes in blue.
That said, I'm sure other places sell similar kits with a choice of colours, but that one is great for reasonably "stealth" install in the interior, plus it has fairly bright LEDs - 2 LEDs in each unit.
Only thing is, the self-stick WILL let go eventually - based on our experience in a TJ Exec - keep a tube of contact glue handy !!
