Am going on a big trip and was want to change my auto trans fluid.

I've seen some garage's advertising a flush.

do they just drain and replace the fluid? cause i can do that?

or do they have a pump contraption? is it worth it?

and can you recommend a garage in either, Melbourne, Wollongong or Brisbane?

i'll be staying a few days in each with friends.

thanks

jason

They use a pump to push all the crap out IIRC, definately something you want a mech to do.

Some use a pump but it can be done on car as well quite easilly

When are you going away as I am able to do this for you, I do only work weekends though

I just disconnected the line from the cooler to the gearbox and put it into a bucket, turn the car over for a few seconds then top it back up again and just keep doing that.... 2 bottles should see most of the crap flushed out.

http://autospeed.com/cms/title_Flushing-your-Transmission/A_3019/article.html

Thats the job procedure step by step.

Granted its not the same car as yours, but it should give you the general idea on how to do it should you choose to take the DIY route.

A couple of points about the AutoSpeed article - the external oil filter mentioned on the '97 Verada transmission was deleted by TJ/KJ era - unfortunately.
The internal strainer type filter in 3rd gen autos cannot be removed without a "box out" overhaul - again, this is a great shame.

Do I read right - OP has a 1st gen wagon with a 380 donk installed? If so,...... NOICE.

Ha, unfortnately i think it has the 2.6, well probably better on gas for me,

I don't think I knew that that info existed in my profile. so i had never changed it. took me a few minutes to realize what you were talking about then i had a look through my info.

thanks again for all the info, i'll be doing an oil change and a trans fluid change before i get into my trip.

cheers
