hey guys, as ive stated in an earlier thread, my Diamante had a second hand engine put in at 218,000ks. the dealer said it was low kms engine and had most parts replaced (water pump, cambelt, seals etc) and i was wondering if anyone could give an estimate of ks based on a pic of the ignition lead, which wasnt replaced and is factory original. I know its a long shot but still im game to hear opinions. Also can anyone identify the model it came from and year based on pics of the camgears if there was a change of apperance over different years. i know it sounds silly but maybe i had an engine from a crashed 99 model?? hoping someone whose knows them inside out will see some thing. thanks for bearing with me, this is the only chance i have to find out anything. dealers no help. oh engine numbers are 6G74M 041756, has the code DO4D7 on block, and N9D7 on front head. thanks again, know its a long shot and alot of guess work.

That engine number is lower than one I have seen in a Nov 02 TJ.

Thats right. Next time I'm at Harveys I'll check a couple of 6G74's that are in some 99 models.

Maybe a Mitsi Dealer could give you an idea of the build date based on engine number?
Or else the Mitsi Customer Support office. Once I got put thru to someone in a technical area who was very willing to help (forget what the query was), other times I have been stonewalled at the Switchboard and got no help whatsoever.

thanks magnadiver, seems they if they did number them logically then my engine is fairly early say 96-97. i think alot of the partds may be origional and i have a low ks engine from a wrecked vehicle. for example the cap looks new nearly, with very little wear on points yet leads are original. this could of been replaced by previous owner tho. im going to try get full service history before and after engine change. there may have been other work done by non mitsi garage. hey as a side note, the mitsi leads have 1997 on, was this the year of manufacture or just happened to be a lead part number?

I checked the leads on a Nov 04 TW and a Sep 03 TL. Both sets were mitsubishi brand and they both had 2003 on them. So I'd say thats the year the leads were manufactured.

The number is the date of manufacture
The leads are made for Mist by Australian Controls, they are generally a good lead and do not present any issues

ok so the engine must be around the same year, or where say a 97 manufactured lead used on a 99 engine?? im trying to determine whether the engine is a really low km engine or been reconned, it has a optibelt ZR timing belt (factory?? Decent??), the dizzy cap has little wear on points, rocker and plug tube seals are mint, does not tap at all, (ive put 15,000 km on it) uses NO oil over 8000km (im late on change) of castrol edge 5-30W, which is still only dark brown, not black. it seems like a really mint engine and i know it was dropped in when my car got to 218,000 km and its done 245,00 km (i got it at 230,000) .

hey heres some info off the cam, if anyone can use this ti tell me what engine it is (150 or 155kw etc) . Cam has the code 24H STAMPED ON IT HALF WAY ALONG. and the letter A written on it in white ink. there was also the letters/numbers BOM23 in vivid, although this could be from repairs or a new head, not factory related. on the intake rockers there is AG6 and BG6 stamped, and on the exhaust rockers G6 is stamped. any help would be great. please. i really want to know what i have under the hood, hoping its the 163kw version!!!

1996-1999 3.5L engines are 147kw.
In the TJ they got a cam revision which bumped the 147 up to 150.
150/155/163kW engines are all the same engine.
150--->155kW was a computer tune
155--->163kW was exhaust
Long story short, take an engine from a 163kW VRX and put it in a KE and you have a 150kW engine (theoretically).

ah thankyou very much!! great info and i can see what ya mean , even with an engine change my KE ECU will be the same tune. so i should be taking it to a shop and getting the tune improved to bump up the power. stock exhaust still, cat converter is gutted, not sure if that would have the same effect as a better muffler as the rear restriction is still there. wonder what the gain would be with a new muffler and cat converter gone if a muffler itself nets 8kw?
