Hi all,

This problem has been going for a while now and is really starting to annoy me.

When I am driving with my headlights OFF the backlight for the trip computer works fine.
The moment I turn the headlights on, the backlight disappears, meaning you can't read the trip computer etc.

Obvious things first, I checked the globe... its fine. Now the day backlight is a different globe to the one that comes on when you turn your headlights on.
Now I have checked the circuit and nothing seems burnt, but there is no voltage getting to that globe when I turn the headlights on so the problem is further along the chain. No I traced the tracks on the circuit board back to the connector on the back of the trip computer unit that plugs into the wiring loom inside the car. The pin it ends at does not have anything connected to it... very weird. Yet it was working before??? :(

Anyone got any other ideas, I am lost...

The dimming knob on the cluster sourround controls the brightness of the trip computer, maybe yours is way down, or isnt connected to it anymore ?

No the dimming knob works fine as it changes my dash brightness...

Well thanks to mitch79, the problem is fixed. He had a spare tip computer so we did a swap and all is working! :)
So the problem must be inside the trip computer itself somewhere. I will have to pull it apart and have a closer look.

Cheers
