I am about to upgrade my car pc audio from the crappy onboard I have, I was wondering if anybody has used this (http://www.melmusic.com.au/shop/index.php?productID=10449), or something similar for their audio. It is reasonably priced and is similar to a DAC (isn't it?) which I have heard good reviews about.
If not I guess I will just take the plunge and buy a PCI sound card and hack my case away to make it fit.
Cheers.

Not to rain on your parade or anything but:
This device does NOT support any of the surround sound formats (6.1, 5.1 etc...) It is Stereo (2 channel in and out) only.
Why would you want to run only 2 channels, even if your hooking this up to an amp, or whatever, you will be loosing out?
If the height of the case is the problem you migt look into getting a right angled riser card (Such as this one (http://www.soarland.com/2U_32Bit_Single_Slot_90-Degree_Right_Angle_PCI_Riser_Card__-product-181.html)).
If height and width are a problem, than an external device is your best bet:
For serious business see HERE (http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/review/pc_components/creative/sound_blaster_x-fi_surround_5_1/224822?image=24405) or buy direct from HERE (http://www.ozdirect.com/product_info.php?source=aushopping&osadcampaign=aushopping&products_id=62313) ($80 bucks AUS on special!)
EDIT: Looking at the prices, your item is $79.99 AUS delivered, whereas the item i discussed is $79.08AUD + Delivery, so your probably looking at spending $10-15 more, for an item (imho) will provide many joys.

I've got an Asus XONAR U1. Also essentially a USB DAC. Huge improvement over onboard sound. It's used on a laptop, hence why I didn't go for an internal one. Well worth the $63.

Yeah I don't think I would really need surround sound, mainly just playing mp3's and few movies in my car. SupremeMoFo, do you think that xonar outputs the same, or better quality, than a reasonable head deck? I just want to get my sound quality back to the quality, or better, as when I had my kenwood deck in there.
Cheers
