Hi, I've got my new CV's ready, the car up on blocks, wheels off, CV joint out of the hub (RHS only so far) and can't get the CV out of the gearbox to save my life!

Have I been stupid and omitted a step somewhere? Is there a retainer plate on the gearbox? Any advice is greatly appreciated as I need the car on Monday (don't we all?).

Thanks Jeff

I haven't done the job myself but I *THINK* I recall reading that you have to just yank it out.........

Your best bet would be to download the mitsubishi manual and see if there is a procedure in there for CV replacements

Cheers Peter Pan, but I've gone WAY beyond just yanking on it and still no luck. Unable to download the manual as internet connection is atrocious (long story, don't ask!) Any other advice is still wanted.

Thanks

once you have undone the brakes holding onto the strut it should be able to be pulled out by hand...

Thats how I did it,..

Are you replacing the outer driveshaft?

Yeah, that's what I read too, but most of what I read about is for a manual. Is the auto different? The hub end of the shaft is hanging free but I simply cannot get the gearbox end out of the gearbox. I've used pry bars, hammered on the free end... there seems to be a bolt-on plate of some kind around the drive shaft on the gearbox. Does that just hold a seal in place (doesn't sound right)? It got dark as I finished yanking, bashing and cursing and I didn't get a chance to check this out.

OK, got it. All done, both sides. RHS required a much bigger lever which I had to go buy. Removed the inlet tubing from the air filter box to the throttle body and stuck the lever down from the top (not enough room underneath on the floor, even high up on axle stands) and put it between the inner joint and the gearbox and lever it out with a pop.

LHS was easier and I was able to get it started with a few good knocks from a big hammer. Thanks to all, especially DJClarky for the contact via PM.

Cheers
