Good day all..
Decided after having my TR written off to rebuild a TS that I had in the back yard. The TS had a bad Motor but the TR had 280k on the clock and is still going strong. The Body is dead though after It was written off three weeks ago.
Details at this thread.
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68812
So last weekend it all started.
Removed the engine and Auto from the TS.
Removed engine and manual Trans from the TR.
Managed to fit and bolt up the V6 And Manual. Trans.
No ancillaries connect yet (As of 6pm Last night).
One question is baing asked though. Has any of you that has done a manual trans conversion had to cut a hole in the firewall for the Master/clutch pedal? There does not seem to be any allowances for this on the TS auto firewall.
Here are some pics of the work in progress.
First Pic is of the TR with no Engine/Manual Trans.
Second pic is of the V6 Auto being removed from the TS.
Will Keep you updated as things progress.I would appreciate any answers to the qn above.
Thanks again.

the best way to do a manual conv is to remove the entire dash, makes it easier to fit clutch pedal.
when you remove the dash there'll be enough light to see what looks like a 'template' for the clutch master cylinder. find a way to mark the centre of the big holeand buy a hole saw for your drill and go for it. should take 5mins tops. I recommend getting a hole-punch and hanner and giving the centre of the template a good whack to expose a little bump on the other side, then you'll be able to use this bump as the guide for your hole punch (working in engine bay.:)

Ive done that, You can see the pic of the hole i drilled. (i did finish rounding it, just took a shot so people know where it is.) Its the link in my signature

Another way of doing it (which was fun:P) Take dash out, use the pointy end of a large file (where the handle usually goes) sit it in the recess of the template and WHACK it with a hammer, do this around and around until it pops out, thats the "Crap how do I make a hole" last minute tip :P

i cant see why it would be? std bar and D bar are same shape/size, only thing that changes are the fogs which are moulded in the plastic. if u have a std bar handy, whats the loss on trying?

I've got a spare reo bar floating round if you need it Damian. :)

Just use a metal cutting hole saw to cut the hole in the firewall, which is what I used to convert my son's KS Verada to manual and there's absolute no need to remove the dash as ther plenty of room to get a drill in there.

You guys that do these conversions amaze me. And i just love the fact that there's this group of people that think 2nd gens are worth all the effort.
Great cars for great people.:)

Here are some pics.
More to come as we progress.. Looks like we only going to have issues with the manual box and auto TCU. But al always the forums were there for assistance and guidance.. Thankd again..
The credit goes to all you guys that have done this before and had the sense to share this info on a place like this.
First pic is of the selector cable connected to the Trans.
Second pic is of the Clutch master installed.. Noticed it still has cruise fitted to the left.. I am planing on using that!! :)
Hopefully we will have it all sorted in the next week or two...

1. Wiring
2. Radiator.
3. AC compressor re attach.
4. Possible swap of steering rack (Suspectedd faulty)

Wicked work! Word of advice, Manual and auto brake pedal are the same BESIDES the length of the pedal area. Its easier to grind off the sides. Trust meeeeee....such a head**** changing pedals over.
Day or two of work and she'll be done!

good to see your staying with a 2nd gen! looks like its coming along nicely
I didnt know you had to change the TCU with the conversion? I didn't get that out of my manual donor car at the wreckers :(

the only thing you need to usually fiddle with is the wiring for the manual or reverse switch. Manuals run fine with auto ecu and tcu(which isnt really used), the other way around...not so much

this is true my car still has the tcu..

If that wheel HUB is okies except for a missing wheel-stud, couldn't you just run a new stud into the hub? Or swap a stud out of the "spare" hub?

That is a novel idea but I got a dead car sitting there that I also need brakes and shocks off. so may as well swap the entire hub and then it is all sorted...
The donor car was my daily driver. It had tghe brakes done 3000k ago. the shoks have done less than 60000k.... the new car god knows when any of that work was done (If at all).

A bit nervos today.. It is in the shop for the blue slip....
Let you know how it goes.
Also couldnt get the cruise to activate. Tha main switch but cannot set or resume... will look into the wiring again after I get word back of the Blue Slip.
I had the wiring crossed with neutral... I believe that is the reason cruise dont work......
Also had this novel thing done. AS I have the cruise button and the fog light switch. I lost the Alarm LED.
I found in the cluster "Security" light. Managed to wire that up for the alarm LED!!! Will get a pic of it soon. It flashes when the alarm is on... Its awesome!!!
Anyways gotta get back to work!!!!

Hey Guys. Just wanted to illustrate this neat thing I found while rebuild my car.
Rired into the cluster loom and added a globe.
The end result is this.
Rather neat I think.
Has any of you done simular on your TR-TS??
