Saw a community board somebody is selling 18 inch rims with tyres, front is 235 which is fine but the rear tyre is 255 would that fit into a 3rd gen? anybody tried ?
the downside is that with 2 different width of tyre, i can't rotate them
and it's selling for $1000

Just no. Different width tyres is stupid. You don't know if they're the correct load rating, plus it'll handle like crap.

i see wheels being sold all the time with different widths, on a lot of JDM cars especially. a lot of 18x8.5s in the front and 18x9.5s in the rear. not sure why, but i'd imagine handling would be odd :\

Should fit but they'd probably be illegal as you're increasing the rolling diameter. Stock is 647.5mm if I remember rightly. If it falls within 15mm in this area you'll be right. I have some 18s that are up for sale once I clean them, 235 all round and will be significantly cheaper than a grand.

if you can get them to fit inside the guard without rubbing (that's a big IF), you'll be fine on the OD.

255/35r18 OD = 635.7mm
235/40r18 OD = 645.2mm
205/65r15 OD = 647.5mm (OEM stock rims)

depending on the size of the rims, you'll need to get them engineered anyway.

Perhaps they are RWD and turbo, so need a bit more grip?

Most RWD performance vehicles run staggered fitments. Very few AWDs run staggered fitments Staggered on a FWD is stupid and pointless. What offset and width are the rims running 255s?

i don't know i havent called to ask yet, that's why i'm asking here if there's any amc member with that fitments. i don't even know if the 5 stud fit magna, but on the advertisement it said that it suits nissan, toyota, ford but no mitsu

If they've listed those models, that would imply a 5x114.3 PCD which is fine. You really need to find out the offset and rim width.
