Hi, my dad has given me his Verada Ei (96-97 model) which has stock front splits (i think), rear speakers and a stock double DIN CD/tape deck..
I am thinking of getting a single din MP3 headunit, an amp (if i have enough $$$) and some decent pair of splits for the front but it seems like a helluva job installing them.. And i just cannot afford the $250-350 that people charge for installation.. :(
If anyone in Sydney/Penrith area is willing to help me out installing, I would appreciate it greatly and i'll chuck in a case of beer if you want.. :D hehehehe..
this site is awesome by the way.. so much information.. just great.. i don't think i'll be able modding/improving my verada that much due to lack of $$$ though..
please email me on jayki@cisco.com

You can do the splits yourself, you would be suprised how easy the doors come off when you know what your doing. Other than that good luck dude, usually installation should account for 30% of your budget :D

My next door neighbour just installed an mp3 unit and amp in my Verada a couple of weeks ago. He is normally an installer of sat-nav, cruise control systems but did this as a favour for me and only cost me lunch and a case. I'll ask him and see if he is willing to do another one but i'm not sure about what he'll charge.
Alternatively visit his website www.cruisecontrols.com.au. Their number is 1800 640 488. Just ask for Nigel.
Also, don't worry about replacing the front speakers as they are pretty decent anyway. Just put some new 6" x 9" in the rear parcel shelf and you will have a kickass sound. The sound I get from mine is really crisp and clear.

whoa there,
If you're on a budget, then they really aren't that bad. I agree that in the base model Magna's the sound isn't that great, but the Verada's have a much better system which is why they cost more to buy in the first place.
I was going to replace the fronts with a component set up but was advised this was not necessary because the net gain over the standard set up wouldn't be worth it. I'm told that it's only when you plan to run some serious power through them that then would you need to upgrade but as they are now, apparantly they can handle 200W max.
Well, my set up sounds decent anyway but i'm interested in hearing someone else's.

yeah... well that means SFA (200w max.) the point is, that the stocko speakers SOUND pooh... u could put 200w through them & they won't sound any better... they are optomised to run from the factory headunit as-is. U need a decent set of afta market speakers... even a cheap set of Pioneer/Kenwood/Clarion/Alpine 6" speakers will sound 1000x better.
