Hey all,

Been thinking of adding an oval pipe from the airbox alongside the existing inlet (properly flanged), run it over the battery (I dont have a battery box with lid) to the area behind the lights (cut out a section of the plastic shroud and attach a flange there as well. Anybody done this? Any clearance issues?

Cheers,
Vlad

ive run a flexipipe from the resonator under the snorkel to the bottom of the car, just to add the extra airflow potential at WOT, i think RPW does something similar. i like your idea, would it add any turbulance that would upset AFM?

I don't have the extra resonator under the snorkel. Don't know about turbulance, I thought the filter would've straightened everything out.

oh yeah and the AFM has the honeycomb section that would straiten things out. sounds good to me, cant hurt!!

Should be fine Vlad, because of the standard height battery you are restricted to about 60mm in height diameter tubing, this will fit and clear the bonnet for where you're talking about. I'll be doing something similar soon for my new engine. You could go bigger with a different battery set-up, but you don;t need too. What are you sourceing your oval pipe from?

Rob, turbulence should'nt be an issue as the Magna race boys over here use a similar set-up that's been dyno tested.
There's photo's in the Mallala thread in the S.A. sect. that might interest you.

thanks mate!! my cars fairly stock, although i have opened up the exhaust a bit with removal of the cat converter (well gutted it), so wanted to add a bit of intake to balance things out.

Don't know about the oval piping yet. May just get a 90mm flex hose and squash it abit. Mind you. I'll still be using the standard snorkel which I've had holes drilled into the cowling into the grill area.

Hi robssei,

Where did you run it to so that you get the cold air, but avoid water and debris etc?

Al, Ive bought another front half (snorkel side) of the stock airbox as im cutting a 75mm hole on the underside (in front of the airfilter) and will be adding a flexible pipe down to where the LH foglight is (may as well remove the lights now due to the new road laws) This will be one of my "try it and see" round of mods that i have planned to see if any of this stuff assists the "donkey" engine before any giggle gas gets put on it.

How much and where did you buy the front half. I'm thinking of doing that in-case I stuff up the one on the car and then can't drive it.

Cheers,
Vlad

Tuffy, you'll be surprised at what wreckers charge for things that we think are of no value.

Yeah, but I know for a fact that some wreckers would not part with just the front part.

unfortunately the main mitsubishi wreckers here in SA seem to know how to "sting" some people with there pricing BUT having said that ive always got good prices from both eddy wreckers and mitsibits for the few parts ive needed in a hurry.
