View Full Version : Heat reshaping plastic pannelwork.
Does anybody here have any experiance with heat shaping plastic pannelwork (bumpers)? There is a slight bump in my new rear bumper and I've just put it on my car and it stands out like dog's balls. It's where the boot meets the rear bumper and it's flush and evenly spaced all the way across untill you get to the end on the right where there is a noticable bump which almost makes contact work the bootlid.
Can this easily be fixed at home with minimal expense and if so what would be required? I'm assuming a heat gun of sorts, and is there a technique to shaping the plastic?

Have you made sure there's nothing behind it pushing it out. When I got rear ended, the crash repairer who repaired it left a bit of reverse sensor wiring dangling and it was enough to cause the bumper to buldge. It is very tight behind the bumper.
Crisis averted. There was nothing buldging from behind, but it turns out there is room for some slight play to be able to position the bumper properly. I fiddled around abit and moved the bumper about and stuff and now it's sitting pretty much flush. The bump is still there but it's hardly noticable at all. Thanks y'all (vlad).

if its still anoying you, you can take a heat gun to it and put some presure on it....
but if its painted be carefull not to put to much heat at once as the paint might wrinkle and totoaly screw up ;)
