Hi all,

would anyone know if Magna's have fuel cut off as a safety setting in the ECU or something after an event of an accident?

someone hit me from behind the other day, only minor rear bumper dmg but for some reason, after we exchanged information and went back to my car, the car won't start, it tries to crank, and it sounds like it can't overcome friction (sounds like a flat battery, but.... it's not.

I checked battery, 12.5v, I even tried to jump start it, it would make about 2 or 3 turns of the crank and halts.

So, anyone got any ideas? Car is with panel beaters now, I'll find out what the problem is in a few days I guess.

Take care.

Probably some not-so-obvious crash damage. Repairers will fix it, but you need to ask them for details.

(noob so no flame) is it possible the accident damaged the coil in some way?

possibly battery is buggered (low capacity) or startermotor is shagged

My Dad's car got hit in the rear once - didn't look like much damage until he tried to start the car and realise the engine had been pushed forward. I think it broke an engine mount and shoved the fan into the radiator. From memory, it had something to do with the impact hitting the exhaust in just the right way to push the engine.
So I guess anything is possible.

Did the exhaust get damaged?
Is there anything in the engine or wiring that'd could sustain impact damage if given a shove that'd make it not start?

Hi Choonga, nice to see you still around. I've moved to NSW for work since 06, so yeah.

I am thinking along the same lines as Puck, impact shifted the engine forward a little, just enough to cause something not to align. The starter motor kicks in, but just won't sustain and sounds like a dead battery, but as i said, tested the battery a day after the accident and it was 12.5V so it had enough charge to start it.

The dmg does not look that bad, just boot lid and bumper pushed in by very little, oh the boot won't close anymore. Anyway, if they write it off, even better, I'll get a VR4, been looking around for one.
