I repaired someones PC the otherday and in return they gave me a Lifebook P7010 laptop with a broken LCD panel and no hdd. I chucked in a spair hdd of mine and connected an external monitor and it works perfectly. Its got a 1.1Ghz Pentium 4 M CPU and 512Mb ram. I have a spare 1.6Ghz Pentium 4 M cpu I can throw in it ( if the motherboard allows it )

My plan was to buy a replacement LCD for it but I cant find them under $400+ so that idea is scratched. It would have been a nice little laptop to use compared to my massive compaq.

Now, I have always wanted a car PC and was thinking that this would be perfect for my 300zx because its so little and wont take up any room. Only thing that im concerned about is the quality of the sound.

Would the sound be as good as my Alpine 9886?

unlikely to be anywhere near a normal HU quality.

Luckily, you may be able to get an external USB sound card.

One way to find out mate! A good external usb will probably kick seven shades of shit out of most head units though.

I might connect it up to my amps and see how she sounds with the internal. If im not happy with it ill have a look around for a USB or a PCMCIA sound card. I hope the internal card is good because i wanna make this as cheap as possible. Only thing i expect to buy is a small touchscreen LCD and a GPS thingy

If you can give me dimensions of the screen you are looking for and take a measurement of the connector on the rear top of the screen (theres a long and a short type) I will have a look at work as we have about 20 broken laptops with screens intact. Prob lookin at $50 for one.

I also have a USB Audigy 2 NX that has been used maybe twice that I may let go of if the price is right....

I have personally found that allot of noise and static comes through the speakers when hooked up to an external amplification source. If you are hooking into a quality system that will reproduce that outcome, get a quality sound card.

P.S. - The SB Audigy mentioned above is a perfect example!
