Hey guys!

Tonight i was just checking all my lights/oils etc.. and i noticed that my Passenger side parker had blown.

i figured out that the bulb holder was in the rubber housing.. so i tried to unplug the low beam headlight so i could get this rubber grommet off.. and this is where i got stuck i couldn't get the god damn plug to unclip from the bulb!! i spent nearly 15 mins trying to get it unplugged before i gave up..

then i tried to just peel the rubber back enough so i could get my hand onto the parker bulb holder.. and i was twisting it etc... and that also wouldn't come undone..

could some body please help me as this is really getting frustrating haha

thanks in advance

Na the parker is below the headlight globe ...look at the light from the front to suss it out..

and you have to squeeze the headlight plug as it has lugs which grip the globe..pull it to hard and you will pull the spring off or break the mounting thingos

i tried pressing those lugs and it just didnt come off... ill sus it out in abit more detail tomorrow when i actually buy new parker globes.. i think i might just buy some LED ones at least i wont ever have to do it again haha

oh also i know the parker is below the low beam globe as i just moved the rubber grommet so i could get access...

so does anyone know how to get the globe out.. like how do you have to move it? turn push? etc..

the killer for led bulbs is unstable voltage flow ie: starting you car with the led's on will shorten the life. i use 1 watt smd bulbs rather than led ones, there much brighter.

ahhh ill probably just buy the normal globes as im a little bit strapped for cash but my main hassle is getting the bulb out in the first place! haha

you shouldnt have to worry about taking the main light out any way as the parker sits underneath it....or meet me at the clearance house tomorrow at 11.00 and we can look at it..

The connector on the back of your low-beam halogen has two opposite sides which have a slightly springy plastic area - you need to figure out which sides have the springy bits, and then squeeze BOTH of them inwards at the same time. Its a Biatch, really, cos there's next to no room anywhere for your beefy manly hands, but that's the trick.

Depending if you have parra's or standard lights the low beam bulb may have two (parra) or three (Standard H4) contacts in that plug connector - but you have to press inwards to have the clamps release on both contacts to allow you to pull the connector back and off the bulb (if standard lights) or the bulb adaptor (if Parras).

One the wiring connector is detached, then attack the rubber sealing grommet thingo (parras have the plastic locking clamp ring over the rubber - I forget what the standard lights have).

Then, in the abundance of room and ergonomic perfection which only Mitsi could devise (proving that we won the war, but Mitsi is having their revenge) - then you can attack your parker bulb. Resist the urge to hacksaw the neck off your coolant bottle if its the passenger one!! LOL.

When I was changing light bulbs i found it was easier to move the washer bottle out of the way. Literally two bolts, no need to disconnect anything, just move it out of the way.

nah i have to change the passenger side.. so the batt and the overflow bottle is in the way...

@Mitch - absolutely - that washer bottle HAS to go, on the Drivers side (mine has an inconveniently-short wire on the washer motor, making THAT hard to unclip). But, on the passenger side, its the narrow neck of the COOLANT bottle gets in my way! Despite the hassle, I still love my TJ and KJ - brought the TJ down to Sydney today - flawless run.

@alphabet-child, If you have parras then I'd suggest needle-nose pliers to grasp the bent metal "tabs" (whatever you'd call it) to pull the bulb-holder backwards out of the reflector. Again, I forget what the arrangement is in the standard (non-parra) lights - both MY cars have parras, my 82yo dad has my old Exec with std lights!!

On a slight tangent, I bought some upgrade bulbs off Steevo (thanks Dood!) and put 'em in the KJ - and I have realised that my two-piece parras have a "blank" parker bulb clip thing in the lamp housing - SOOOOO guess who wants to find some spare parker bulb-holders and put parkers in the low-beam as well as in the Rada bar? I once planned to swap Parkers and Blinkers in the Rada, but chickened-out when I couldn't do it without hacking the standard loom...... now the idea of having parkers at corners in Blinker housing and in the low-beam refelctor has me just about breathing heavy.......

EDIT: If you have std lights which have three actual wires in the low-beam connector, its just the two opposite sides that need a squeeze inwards. You may find that a thumb and index finger of one hand works, otherwise try the index finger of each hand..... like I said, its biatch.

Also, if you have the needle-nose pliers with bent tips, they are probably better than straight needle-nose - and I just grasp the flat of the bent metal clip around the back of the parker bulb-holder, and pull straight backwards - don't try to twist, bend or doing any other fancy manouvres.
(Funny anecdote: first time I had parker out of a parra I think I undid some screws, I didn't realise that the bulb-holder just pulled-out with that springy bent metal bit!)

PS EDIT: If you have a battery cover, unclip that as well, its only about 4 canoe clips (aka Xmas Tree clips) hopefully - that's what is on mine cBUT I added a "wrecker" battery cover on my TJ (ii) Sports.

hmm okay my plan is to bend an old pair of long nosed pliers so a can grip the two thingos you need to hold it while pulling... then it **SHOULD** come out... then with my parker globes ill .. well i dont know.. can someone please tell me how to remove the parker globe holder..

Whippy - do you have "sexy-but-crap-parra's" or "standard-but-better" headlamps?
Parra's have a metal parker bulb-holder, with a springly metal clip you can grab with needle-nose pliers - the round metal bulb holder has springy metal "wings" which clip into a slot.
Standard headlamps have a plastic bulb-holder which is a press-fit into a plastic hole in back or reflector...... your avatar shows these lights (unless you've upgraded). I understand that the plastic-on-plastic fit can be VERY tight - just use strong fingers or very judiciously use pliers to grip - be careful of damaging the wires if any tool slips.
Hope its all sorted (possibly in caine's parking lot) by now!!

well its all sorted... i just puller the rubber back and only just got in there with some pliers.. and pulled out the plastic holder... and i see what you mean by how its tight...

My bad - I thought there was an offer to help you out at "one-on-one-mini-demo-day-mark-II" at Caines, that was all. Glad its sorted.
