Hey im just after some info on seating for my old magna. I was looking at the prices of recaro seats and promtly closed the window (about 500+ for starters) and the sparco seats werent that far behind, im after something sporty but not hardcore so i thought maybe if i found a vrx or a ralliart at the wreckers i could pinch those seats and someone in the AM room on mirc said maybe gen3 seats reupholstered, what are the options that i could use? would another model/years seats be able to be bolted into my magna? i want something A) more supportive when driving it hard and B) newer, the seats are getting a bit...eh... im not sure about the laws either but i know its gotta get certified or something. oh yeh im also wanting something thats just bolt in and i can keep my seatbelt, none of this harness stuff.

recardo's for $500!! where!!! thats waaayyy too cheap!!!

as for the spraco's too, the 4 that are going in the booya cost around 990 each!!!

but as for cheaper alternitvites, there are OBX seats and autotechnica ones that should be around 200-400 each.

i thought maybe if i found a vrx or a ralliart at the wreckers i could pinch those seats and someone in the AM room on mirc said maybe gen3 seats reupholstered

dude, to be honest with you, if you found a wrecked ralliart, there would prolly be very little differene as far as cost of seats are conserned to buy VRX/R-Art seats new genuine. id imagine they would be hell expensive. i originally wanted to get leather for my car, so i enquired at the mitsu dealership, and got a very clean quote of 4,300$ JUST FOR THE FRONT TWO SEATS!!!!

bah! you can retrim your current seats in leather/pleather for less then 4k all round, and that would prolly include the door trims!

altho bucket seats are popular, by rights you are ment to have them cirtified by an engineer, and ment to get an enginner's cert. Lucky you dont want harnesses cos again, you'll pay 200$ for a good sparco set and you also need a engineers cirt for em.

hope ive given you some idea on whats what, but when compairing a "new genuine" to a aftermarket seat, your almost better off with an aftermarket :doubt:

Ben.

You might just want to retrim your current seats and get them bolstered in areas you want more support. Aftermarket seats aren't cheap :( But Autotechnica and Monza (I think) arent as expensive as SAAS, Recaro etc.

I want SAAS Dominators in red/black :D

True, but thats cause Autotechnica AKA Monza are CRAP! My mate has them, & they are the dodgiest things I've eva seen! I dunno how they pass Aus. Standards!
OBX don't look as bad, but... U don't get what u don't pay for!

I used to have Aerotech seats in my Falcon I got them as they were Australian Made and the looked pretty good and were comfortable, they even trimmed them in the right colour, Mistake 1 they ended up being the worst seats I ever sat on, they were very poor build quailty, they sagged the material wore like there was no tommorow, if you couldn't see it they never stiched it. the pump up lumber support leaked and at $1300 for the pair fitted what a waste of money. They may have improved but then again they may not have. but I would never buy them again

Buy some material and learn how to sew. That's the hard but cheap way. I have some really awesome material that feels awesome and isn't very expensive. Would be perfect for any seats but can I be bothered wasting my time getting someone to do it or doing it myself?? No. I've checked out some aftermarket seats and honestly they are so fricken expensive... I was wondering if they came with a house as well :) Good luck finding some relatively cheap good quality seats cos I don't they make any as I've been looking.

yeh i thought i would save if i found a trashed evo, any model or maybe the newer magnas had more sportier and supportive seats then i could just get some out of a killed TE exec or something and get them reupholstered to my oldass interior... problem is money, i dont pull in enough to support me let alone refurbish my car, and truely its not worth it, if i had a 2nd gen in the same condition i would but the TP is already 14 years old.

Dont know if there is much difference between Sports, VRX and Rallairt seats but i must say the Ralliart seats are the most comfortable seats i have ever had.

Hang out for them, they would be worth any money asked for them.

Plus, they bolt straight in and you dont need an engineers certicicate.

We'll im gonna ring around some wreckers tomorrow to see if they have any magnas and go check out seats, and let me get this right, if i get any magna seats, be it TN or the latest seats i dont need it certified ?? im ringing a seat place tomorrow to see how much it'd be to do all the seats and like totally redo the front seats, foam and all to make them harder and more supportive.

i think the only difference on the vrx and r/a seats is the fabric, basic design is the same as other magnas.
for a 1st gen the elite/elante seat is excellent, very luxurios and better than most new ones now also fairly supportive and lots of adjustments.
also 2nd gen magna seats are very good and supportive in a more hard sporty way, not sure if they also bolt straight in.

difference between ralliart and VRX seats. Ralliart has different fabric, and is ALOT more bolstered! very nice for ya planting ya ass in i must say!

TZA has 3rd gen seats in his 2nd magna. they fit perfect, like factory!!! Except the rear bottom seat which is missin a clip.

You could find some 3rd gen seats for about 200-300 for the front...depending on condition! Retim + Boulstering youd be looking at abit over 1000 extra.

i know the floor pan is the same from 2nd to 3rd gens but you might hit trouble with a first gen. you can only get away without having it engineered if it is a perfect bolt in fit. the easiest and probably cheapest way would be to take your current seats to an upholsterer and have them rebuilt. they will strip them down to the bare frame and re trim them as sporty as you want on your original base so its obviously gonna be a bolt in fit, and all your paying for is the work. and your also garaunteed of getting the finish and colour scheme you want. dont know why youd even consider anything else.
