okay guys i got a new car :) its an 2001 AuII Falcon
But its ok the magna is still here, just my sister is using it now :)
But seeing how i cant really leave my sister with NO music ive decided to leave the sound system in there for her
which means i get to do a whole new system :)
So heres the plan-

Headunit- Double din motorised Screen (JB have some good deals atm on JVC and Alpine)
Front speakers - Really keen on the New JL Aduio splits ZR*** cant remeber exact model number.. rrp699$ and sounds just as good as focal and at almost half the price :)
Rear Speakers- Not sure yet (ideas please)
Sub- thinking maybe the new model kicker L7.. havnt herd one running loud tho so not too sure
Amps- Already have a decent alpine 4chn that is fne for the front speakers and not too sure on a amp for the sub..

So thats the plan atm.. jsut waiting for tax return haha

BUT- im not sure if i want to keep my carputer.. i dont use it as much as i hoped but still want some of the features mostly GPS and really wanna hook cameras up to film when i go crusing haha whiuch means i need the carputer.. but not sure if its worth keeping it jsut for this.. and if i do decide to keep it i need a screen with VGA input.. and i dont want to lose the fact that i have over 15,000 songs at the touch of a button..
mhmm drama drama drama haha

so yeah any recomendations would be great

cheers guys

usb cameras, on a carputer......you mean a webcam? haha, and yes you can get them for anywhere from 10 to 200 dollars. There's heaps out there but i'd suggest spending a little on the higher side so you can get fluent video. Saying that, there are usually some good deals on the good quality ones and ebay is your best friend, so many people selling them these days.

Yes, but you can make baffles up to fit 6.5"s. Personally re: Front stage, I think Focal 165KR's shit all over the ZR's (along with many other speakers in the price range of the ZR's), but hey all personal preference. Have a look at a JL 1000/1v2 mono for the L7, 1000w rms should be fine for a single L7 I would imagine.

Ill look into that amp now.. i really need advice on rear speakers.. i know 6by9s and subs arnt reccomened together.. and some ppl say jsut have no rear speakers.. should i bother getting rear speakers or jsut put the $ towards everything else?

Whats your budget for the gear in:
Fronts
Sub amp
Sub

Lots of gear out there. You may need to do some more auditioning....

Aims for sound system: i.e SQ, SPL, All rounder.

What type of rears and whether you even need them is debatable by many, really it comes down to your personal preference. I didn't miss not having rear speakers for the many months I haven't had any, but I definitely prefer something there. 6x9's or 6"s don't really make much difference because you should have the low end filtered out them anyway, so it won't conflict with the sub/s.

Me personally, I like having front and rear speakers, with the sound stage set to the front probably about 70/30.

I find the 6x9's dont drop as low as my 12 inch sub ... so I leave them as full range.. but fade my system more towards the front then the rear...
It allows the rear passengers to hear lyrics rather then a soothing back massage alone... but I wouldn't go over board.. a set of Infinity 5x7 2-ways on the back shelf would do fine...

There's several reasons why 6*9's dont go quite as low (Charisma be quiet about those Vibe's lol)

One is phase cancellation....try as you might, the sub will cancel out those lower notes.

The problem with those Vibe's is getting them to fit. No way in hell will they go into a standard shelf. I've got a plan though for those down the track :D

I personally wouldn't bother with the rear stage playing below 60hz with a sub, in fact, there's probably mute point in them running below 100hz.

Yeah well I would still prefer a sub but the Vibes are the only ones that come close. Plus as Lugo said they are a different shape..

oh i thought the examples i was looking at gave a rough price range..
but id say
Fronts-~$700 (want splits)
Headunit-~ $1000 (2DIN dvd touch screen)
Sub- thinking kicker L7 or alpine Type X so anything around that price range
Amp- ~$500 (only for sub have an amp for fronts)
Rears- Not sure if i want them or not yet
i have all cables and what not already

These are only rough prices but should give use an idea

I can install myself but due to warranty im might consider pro install
and im going for SQ/All rounder
hope that helps

Ok for the HU.

Clarion make a nice 2DIN touch screen, colours arnt as vibrant as the JVC, but it has some good features, like a Parametric EQ. Not sure on voltage of pre outs though.

RRP is around $1099, can probably get it down to $1000. JVC is a nicer screen (to me atleast, more rich colours, better contrast) but SQ apparantly isnt crash hot, and not sure on features (like equaliser etc).

$700 for fronts? Nice - be sure to sound deaden the door, $700 wont sound like $700 without the proper prep work first.

Not trying to toot my own horn - but my Polk SR6500's will soon have 1.5 bulk packs of sound deadening inside the doors....basically what I say to most people is spend 1/3rd of your front speakers RRP on sound deadening.

So you'de apply roughly 2 door kits to each door (or 2/3rds of a bulk pack, or roughly $140 worth).

As for suggestions:

Morel Dotech 6.5" splits $389 including shipping from the wonderful FHRX (RRP is $655) - gives you cash to sound deaden your doors too! Once you start buying upper midrange speakers, there's no good/bad speakers - just personal preference....this is where auditioning comes into it.

Or

JL Audio C5-650 $699 RRP

I'll let other people do the amp/sub thing - too tired right now :tired:

yeah ive herd about clarion ones not being very vibrant, i saw the new pioneer ones in Jb on speacial for just under 900$ they look nice but there was none set up to test the features ie equalizer etc.. they do however have motion sensers for turning in and off, like u wave ur hand infront of the unit and the menu comes up.
They also have a sony one for 850ish that has better specs in the way of preouts and AV inputs etc.. but ive been told to stay away from sony.. even tho my current single DIN dvd headunit is sony and its been great..

yeah i will be sound deadening the doors, not worth speanding all this money and not bothering to do the sound proofing..

cheers for the other options for speakers will have to look into them, the morel Dotech ones sounds like a bargin will have to hear a pair asap, trouble is the car places local to me dont have many of the higher priced gear set up or even stock it at all.. and theres no way id spend money on this stuff with out listening to it 1st.. i live on the gold coast so youd think thered be better stocked places ahha..

thanks for the other options, thats what im looking for as there are soo many different choices so its impossilble to hear them all so jsut looking for otheres ppl recomendations so i can hear them all then make my choice..
cheers
