hey all, this morning when it was -1 outside i turned the climate on to 18 degrees but the ac came on full bore! isn't it supposed to warm up the car to 18 deg? do they all do the same?

and i can't turn recirc on when defrosting the screen. its bad when floowing a smoky car cause either i cop the fumes or the windscreen fogs up :( anti-fog leaves a film and only lasts a few days :(

thanks.

Yes all 380s put the air on fresh air intake when demisting. I have never put my temp as low as 18 in winter more like 23 and it works fine with no cold blasts. The aircon fan does not even start until the engine has warmed up so that it only blows warm air.

just to clarify which part are you wondering about? the fans coming on or the aircon coming on?
pretty sure the fans must be controlled by a computer as the further you are fromt he set temp the harder they come on.
the AC, as a guess they include the heater as part of aircon? so that would mean its just saying that we not giving you air direct from outside, but rather its been processed first.

very very rough guesses, ive never really thought about it

thanks for the replies, glad its not just me. it gets annoying when playing with the controls, sometimes i turn it too far and it goes to auto mode and the aircon comes on. by the time i realise and press the ac button theres moisture in the system and fogs up the windscreen

Mine's not a 380 but it has the same climate control program (the L and W series 3rd gens had the whole system revised). When the outlet dial is in a position showing the windscreen then when you turn it on, it automatically goes to demist with recirc turned off (however, on mine, I can then manually push the recirc button to turn it on). As for the fan, if you turned it to the auto position then the fan speed will be at max til it reaches the desired set temperature, otherwise it should be at the speed that it was set.

 yeah mine wont over ride the recirc mode when its defrosting the screen. whats more annoying is if i try and press it and switch over to cabin it won't switch recirc off
How are you confirming that it is not switching to recirc mode? It may have switched to recirc but there may be a problem with the baffle/gate not closing properly. Try switching between recirc and outside modes at some other time without the dial in windscreen position to see if there is a problem with the gate.

theres a recirc light. goes on in recirc mode. goes out when switched to screen :(
ok, but are you hearing a wirring sound at the same time. Try swapping between recirc and outside when the outlet is set to the face position while following a smokey car.

The best way to defog a windscreen when it is cold outside. 1. turn heat up. 2. have AC on as this takes the moisture out of the air. 3. Have fresh air. This is the quickest way to defog your windscreen.

That is exactly what I said in my first post. Mitsubishi made it automatic as of TL/KL.

im not 100% if its the same with the 380 as the KL/3g,
but when you put the temp dial right down to 18, the car goes into 'deep freeze mode' - no matter what the outside temp is.
it will also turn recirc on and the fan speed will be warp factor 9 kinda thing.

personally, i find that even on 25degrees (where i leave mine) with ac on - even on frosty mornings, the windscreen does not fog up at all for me.
i use no special cleaners/anti fogs - in fact im lucky to clean the inside of my windscreen!
i just leave my vents on AUTO
and leave the fan speed on AUTO
just set the temp - the car will work it out.

if you jump in the car, with it being -1, setting the climate to 25 will heat the car - and it will automatically select screen to heat/defog the windscreen, once interior temp warms up a bit, it will go feet/screen and eventually face (in my car anyway) as long as the ac is on the whole time, it should stop the winscreen fogging on cold and frosty mornings :)

Why not just leave it on 20, works for me. Then you don't have to worry about pushing any buttons.

Just on this topic.

I find that when i have demister on with the a/c and all, even when it's just the fans aswell, that the air flowing from the bottom of the windscreen is fine, but the "section" above the drivers side vent (the one with the flappy things) will blow out quite warm air as well.. Which is an absolute pain in the ass.

Does anyone else have this..? It's quite frustrating when you've got the demister on @ 18-20ish but warm air (i'd say atleast close to 30ish) is also being pumped in..

Thx
Ben

That is part of the demisting functionality to demist the front-side windows, which is also considered to be important to be clear for driving. I think you'll find the temperature coming out there is the same as from the base of the windscreen. Its just not as fast so may seem warmer.

Ahh right, ok, cheers for that. Really appreciate it. Although, forgot to mention it, it's not always warm/hot air, it's occasionally cold as-well. But i mean, if it's part of a function, i shouldn't be concerned.

Thanks.
