There's a TW 3.5L going at fowles salvage auction with only rear damage.

I've never been to a damaged vehicle auction, so does anyone have a rough idea of how much it might go for? I'm looking to strip it out completely and throw the interior, loom, electronics as well as the engine into my car. The interior I can handle swapping out. As for the engine bay.. I don't have too much mechanical experiance (even though I work on the QR locos) - is a prick to do? If I win the wreck I'd be looking at doing the swap the same weekend at work where I have all my tools and access to a gantry crane. I'd be doing the engine swap on the Saturday and would expect it to only take a day. I won't be rebuilding the engine and will be throwing it straight in, unless there's something obvious. The Sunday I'd be chaging out the dash and putting the new loom in there. But in all reality seeing as this is my first time, it will probably take a whole lot longer than the 2 days.
The only things I'm not sure about are the engine mounts and the drive shaft. Do the 4G and the 6G engines share the same mount points in the engine bay? And will I have to transfer the drive shaft over from the TW or can the original be used from the TF?
Could anybody give me a rough figure (from experiance) what this wrecked car could go for.
My attempts at searching yielded no answers.

Its an auction. If no-one wants it, you can pick it up cheap. If someone else wants it the price goes up. Set yourself a bid limit and walk away if it goes above that. Only YOU can decide what the wreck is worth to you.
4 cylinder to 6 cylinder swaps have been discussed here, as I have no experience in this I will suggest the SEARCH function.
As to the time limit you set yourself, I'd double it - personally, I would not feel comfortable attempting a job like this unless I had a week (or 2) to devote to it.
Yeah, I've got my limit. But I was asking people what they have seen wrecks go for. I've used the SEARCH function and manually browsed through over 100 pages in the tech torque section but to no success. The search function won't include any words with two or less characters which further makes things difficult if you are searching by model number. Yeah two days is a bit of a pipe dream. Turns out I have enough room at home, which in turn gives me more freedom to work on it when I want.

One of staffers used to work at an auction yard and a magna wreck would often go for $700-1500 depending on the number of straight panels and year model. An awd fetched a paltry $2400 recently.
Cheers, that falls within my price range. The only competition I would i magine would be from the local wreckers in the area. The search function is on these forums is... different. But from what I could find engine should drop straight in. Couldn't find any solid posts of people actually having complete it with feedback though.

To eliminate competition from the yards, you could kick in each panel before the auction begins? Hard to imagine much competition thou.

I gather you are looking to chage a 2.4l magna to the running gear on this one?? The engine is a straight bolt in HOWEVER the aircon lines are different on the TW as is the ABS, TW also has seat air bags plus many other things you may not even want
You are better off getting a destroyed Verada KF,H or J and using that as the donor car.
Best way to acheive this will be as follows
Remove interior including dash, fan box and wiring
Remove engine, trans, drive shafts, bay harness, brake block (lh back corner of bay) and brake lines (located under the padding)
Cut into the LHS of your fire wall the marked hole for the ABS modulator wiring
Replace ALL wiring first, brakes second, engine, running gear etc
You will need to also change over your rear axle for the rear abs sensors as the TE 2.4 does not have it.
If you look at my thread in the members lounge you will see where I did similar (alrady had the 3.0 though) but added SRS, ABS, Cruise and fast glass, all in under 3 days.

Thanks man your a help as always. I checked out your thread before I posted this. The only real difficulty is the lack of a welder for the SRS passenger side bracket. But I'll worry about it when I get everything up and running.
Turns out I know the auction coordinator and he tells me the finance company is looking for about $2600 for the wreck. But he might even be able to work some magic for me, just depends on how the bidding goes.
Are the a/c line different because of the differently shaped engine bay or because of refinements over the previous models?

I recently picked up a TJ VRX S1 for $750 with running engine, tippy etc. Week before the auction didnt meet its reserve of $650 so prices could range depending on the reserve which is hidden.
I'll buy it off you for 2k$? The finance company is chasing the $2600, so I'm guessing it's the reserve. Obviously it'll drop if it doesn't sell. Too lazy to rip out the door looms, you think throwing TW doors onto a TF with a VRX kit would look silly? I mean there's the moulded indentations on the TW compared to where the plastic bottom guards go on the TF's door. But I'm getting ahead of myself here. Need to win the car.

The lower doors are the same as the early models, only some have no strip and some have a small strip that just goes to the bottom of the door, I have these on my TF with TW side skirts as well
As for the aircon lines, I think Mits just did it to piss me off when I do timing belts lol
There is far more involved in changing doors especially when you look at paint etc, even if the same colour you will find the shade will not match and will look fugly
Door looms are piss easy to change, once you have done one the rest are easy.
I'd have to change the locks and stuff on the front two doors when I swap everything else over due to keys being programmed to the computer. I have a mate who's a pannel beater/ painter. My doors have the odd slight dint or two from morons that aren't considerant in shopping center car parks. Was worried about pulling the loom through the door rubber, then it hit me - I didn't have too - take the rubber with the loom. Also drivers side door has tiny bit of rust in it, and the windows are tinted, and I haven't gotten around to putting the power windows into the rear two doors yet. So it'll save me abit of time just swapping the doors over.

You are best off to just do a complete lock change if you are doing this but remember if you need a new key to keep the vin from the donor car as mits will not supply a key based on a barrel code, have tried this for my car lol
