for those playing along was originally posted in the 380 front brake setup for sale post. hey ben if you can do it do you reckon you will be able to do it legally? i mean would be a real waste of all your other permits to have it non certified..

Brembo's yes + my coilovers are bout to get made and I will just get 3rd gen bottoms on them to bolt up to 3rd gen brakes so yeah, as per 1st post, can it be done

Just Pm Madmagna dude. Pretty sure its possible but not all bolt up, will need modding to work Im pretty sure (sway bar mount)

Sway bar mount is on the control arm not the hub

You will face 2 issues
Tie Rod taper is different, this can be overcome easilly by using the third gen tie rods
Drive shaft I am pretty sure has a different amount of splines HOWEVER I have a vague memory that the Verada TS drive shaft spline MAY be the same from memory so you could upgrade your drive shafts to solve this

The mounting for the strut is exactly the same, the spacing for the 2 bolts are the same, you would want also to use the third gen strut so as to have the brake hoses etc mount properly as per the third gen

If done properly, it would take someone looking for the mod and knowing the difference in the mountings etc to pick it

I am 99% certain that the lower ball joint taper is the same

Just get one from a self serve wrecker and you can then do a dummy fit

interesting maybe the ralliart brakes I have at home will fit after all

Any reason you can't fabricate an adaptor for whatever brembos you want to use to attach to your current hubs? Turbo_Charade has a set of GTR calipers on his E30 BMW... Massive 6 pot Sumitomo jobbies, pulls up a treat. He did the rears too.

Id much rather use the engineered parts by mitsubishi than an adapter bracket that may stuff up. Try and eliminate this by using 3rd gen parts.

Thanks for the info Mal, will look into this in the coming weeks and if its gonna go ahead, I will post up a How To thread with pics.

All I needed to know was if it could be done! Now to find a wrecked 3rd gen, bwahaha

MAL,

Just a quick one, when you said MAYBE KS shafts, you mean get the Outter part of them pressed onto my 4cyl inner to make a hybrid shaft yes?

I can see this being a worth while mod for 2nd genners who want some massive brake upgrade options :)

If I was not so damn lazy would give it a go given that I have several 2nd gens and several third gens lying around by back yard lol

Ok, sorry to do this, but can someone make a list with pics of the parts that Im going to need to do this? Like what exactly is a "hub"?? I know what CV shafts are and how they go thru the middle with retainer bolt and pin but thats where my knowledge of font end suspension goes? According to Mal all I need is tie rods and shafts so im a bit like WTF how does that "convert" it to 3rd gen?

So let me get this right, you want to change over so you can fit third gen brakes (crap i meant breaks lol)

Let me look into it, I will be pulling a KR apart over the next couple of days and will take a few measurements

As discussed with Brendan and I at work today, is there any differences in first gen/second gen hubs? Would it be possible to convert a first gen to third gen hubs?

I dont know about most of the parts but I found out this last night:

The 2nd gen 4cyl 2.6L inner part of the shaft WILL press onto the 3rd gen V6 3.5L outter shaft to create a hybrid as they are both a 26 spline shaft!! So even if the KS verada shafts dont fit, these custom ones can be made to suit the 3rd gen hub upgrade.
