For a while now i've been contemplating a bodykit for my 3rd gen GTV(hence why the selling of my rims).

A) Because they're hell rare here in aus
B) Yes i know it will be rice but they look damn fiine...in my opinion anyway.

Now thanks to verada's not being the most available/popular car in aus no-one has a body kit for it, so the only way to get one is to ofcourse import it from japan!

Theres 5 Kits ive found to be out there.

THe chargespeed kit:
http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss204/muzzi_gtv/CHARGESPEEDLOWERED3.jpg

The hipposleek kit:
http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss204/muzzi_gtv/HIPPOSLEEKBK.jpg

The 2 different HIRO kits:
http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss204/muzzi_gtv/link_f31a_wh_front_s.jpg
http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss204/muzzi_gtv/link_diamante_f.jpg

And MY favourite, which i have my eye on is the EVOLUTION kit:
http://i576.photobucket.com/albums/ss204/muzzi_gtv/evolutionfull.jpg

Now this is where the fun part comes in...just to purchase these kits IN japan will set you back around the $2k mark. Add in shipping, and taxes and insurance and what not and your looking a good $3K+ for a kit landed in aus. Plus once your factor in fitting and painting..well lets just say its stupidly pricey.

What iam suggesting is that ill take the brunt of the cost 1st up but provided theres enough interest am willing to get a mould done/duplicate the bars so i can hand em out to anyone else who wants one, that or in anyone else is willing to buy straight off the bat iam sure if we purchase a few the cost of the kit would come down decently.

Another option is like the previous if i get a custom kit done and keep the mould would anyone else be interested in a kit. Remember verada kits are like hens teeth in aus...not there, so to have one would be (as peter griffin would say) 'awesome'.

OR
Should i just be humble and instead get coilovers/compress my springs and dump the hell out of my ride and concentrate on the interior and maybe a set of XHP dirtdogs or blades so it looks like ive got elastic bands.
Unfortunetly i would have loved to follow the 'make it go faster' side of things but thanks to converting it to gas thats a no go.

Or you could just put Magna bumper's onto your car and use any of the dozen bodykits available for them.

Personally i think all those kits make the 3rd Gen look even more old and outdated. I would just put on some side skirts so the side of the car looks flat and even. Then spend the rest of the money on other mods.

Good call mate, sorry articuno madmagna's right, the easy option WOULD be just that..but then id just have a run of the mill magna bodykit. Tis just an idea to mull around the ol' nogging really..if anything was to get serious ofcourse you'd be first port of call!

Mohit your right..it does make the car look oldschool..BUT the appeal for me is i suppose i enjoy that look along with being a rarity in aus..the whole reason why iam going for a bodykit. But you do have a vaild arguement with the sides...i assume any vrx/ge skirts would fit?

Good spot liverpool! Photo changed!

HEll yeah! The evolution is my favourite for shiz but i LOVE the white 3 spokey wheels on the HIRO car..soo 80's! lol

As you wish liverpool!

I didnt know that thing would be driveable...always thought it was bagged! Thats some kickass negative camber though..would go though tyres like paris hilton goes though guys! Initially did contemplate that look..really cheap comparitively too...BUT for VIP id need new wheels...aka deep dish.

I think i remember seeing some guys with a similar setup on his rada and he had to modify the top of his wheel wells so he could dump it...if anyone who knows if this is actually possible..and to drive on i just may give it a shot!

haha you can keep your vrx kit mate...sooo not special enough for me! lol

Looks like you might need Magna reo bars if you were to fit one those kits. I don't think Diamante's had the extended bumpers like our Verada's do.

I don't mind the Evolution kit but I don't know if it would suit the TJ front end.

It's a shame there isn't more aftermarket kits for Magna's in Aus. I couldn't justify spending so much coin for a Jap kit. By the time it's landed, painted and fitted it would probably end up costing more than half of what my car is worth.

aaaah damn..apparently changing reo bars with cars with airbags is a pain and not worth it. Well if i guesstimate the cost of my stock gtv around 10k then i think i'll be very close to paying half of the car! lol

mal has changed the reo bars in his car, ask him how he went with airbags?

Madmagna
09-07-2009, 01:14 PM
Has nothing to do with the airbags as the main unit under the dash also contains the impact sensor.

Even in the second gen, the sensors are mounted to the rail so the bar has nothing to do with it

Another option is to get a kit you like and then mod it to fit your car

Thank you for the correction!
Mate you are good, iam literally mid way through pm'ing you about that..have seen other members eg behr that have taken other bars and modded them to the car..i assume the cost would be slightly less...but only slighty due to the custom works..anything i can do myself to help the process along or is it just a matter of finding a bar and taking it to a good panel beater/ custom shop.

EDIT: Just looked at the evolution skirts...they're even more simple! lol

All the pics you have shown above, show cars with the smaller magna bumpers on them not the large american style verada bumpers. So what ever kit you did get would need some mods to make it fit the larger/longer verada bumpers.

ok, ive been down this path countless times when i had the rada and believe me your going down a hill you wont climb again. the pricing is stupidly high.
you best of making a kit from scratch here or as suggested use an existing magna kit
the kits you chose, apart from the hippo sleek, are all frankly just ugly, you may as well chuck a ground effects kit on.

if you want a hot kit this is the kit thatll turn heads:
http://www.ilovebodykits.com/images/products/p_97MTDIA4DVIP-001.jpg

my preference and thi kit i was going to get was the later but trust me your not gunna have a pleasant time doing it man

No thats not a chargespeed kit liverpool..its a custom one the dude made.
EDIT: found it ...'The bodykit was handmade by Yutaka (with Fibreglass/Polyester Resin). You can see the Apexi SAFC and RSM on the interior pic. '

Initially i actually wanted THAT kit but realised it was a custom one.
http://www.fastmagna.com/gallery/Japanese-Diamantes/Yutakas-Diamante/DSCF0020_11.jpg.html

Ha u kids serious?..once again it comes down to personal preference i suppose..but not a big thinker of the hippo sleek kit..and hell the reason iam contemplating these kits are because i cant stand the 'vip' kit..looks soo chunky and iam pretty sure maxiumum height you can go is stock springs with that kit! lol I think your right fresh...unless iam willing to fork out half my cars worth to a body kit and paint it doesnt look good...honestly i think ill just have to go a custom kit..and iam only looking for something simple too...front and rear bar just coming straight down..and find me some ge skirts to finish it off..to give the car a squarish blocky look...rather then the 'i have a high ass/low nose' look for the kits.

The ge skirt should fit flush i think. Will look into going custom for the front and rear then. Anyone have any insight into that path?

Spending ridiculous amounts of money on your magna seems like a fairly common practice round here. Look at all the people supercharging 10+ years old 3.0L's with high Kms. They know they wont get the money back but if you plan on keeping the car the expense can be justified. Id so go for they look very cool and by keeping the mold you may be able to re-coup some of the expense.

Spackbace
11-07-2009, 10:47 PM
but superchargers can be repaired locally... what if the OP doesnt keep the mould, and cracks a front bar or something...?

tbh, none of the kits really have enuff 'wow' factor for me, even forum member 'jpeg' had a better kit on his car, and it was sold locally.

as we cant do the VIP look without getting defected, why bother half assing it?

heyy muzzi!
not sure if this helps at all, but i think the best way to do it would be to get in touch with a importing place.
ImportMonster is a site ive been looking at and they import kits to sell off their website. maybe if you contact them they might be able to bring in a kit you want with a lower shipping price as they bring in a fair bit of stuff anyway.

http://www.importmonster.com.au/need-to-know

all details here.. seems to be cheaper then shipping by yourself..

Even better.. their in victoria as you are, you could pick up from their warehouse.

helps if you search for japanese terms too.. ディアマンテ is japanese for diamante! haha

okay this site is awesome... getting its own thread now...
