Hi
Am looking to getting a tinting job done. But some films contain metal (I am told)
Will this affect radio reception and do I need to go for the more expensive non metal film?
Cheeers:tired:

Midnight Express, we had it done, doesnt affect our reception at all.

Their website also says they have $100 off it at the moment too.

Cheers

As far as I am aware, the metalised films do not effect your radio reception - UNLESS you have a car that has the radio antenna on the glass (like our Honda Odyssey does).
Does the 380 have a 'normal' antenna or one fitted onto the glass?
The metalised films are better as they don't fade like the older dye films, but I'd go for a non metalised film on any glass that has an antenna on it.

I had 3M Carbon fitted to my TW, and the installer told me my 380 had metal tint which has affected my Radio/Antenna on glass, so avoid.

Just a heads up guys... seeing as the antenna is external of the cabin of the car it makes no difference if the film has metal in it or not... food for thought

A quick Google search tells me the Antenna is fitted onto the Rear Windscreen - correct?
If so, then people may be advised to either go for...
- full non-metalised tint all-around
or
- like we did in the Odyssey (and the Tarago before it). Have metalised film put on all windows except the one fitted with the antenna. Have non-metalised film (same/similar colour & shade) on the antenna window only.

Midnight Express isn't metalised. We have it on our 380 all around with no problems. Like I posted above.

Yeah, as responded already, 380 antenna is fitted to rear glass; just above demister section and looking like another demister panel.

That report looks interesting.Any effect on Bluetooth or GPS?

My phone with Bluetooth & GPS is unhindered by the tint, an FM transmitter would be affected though, obviously.

Please let us know how you go!

I have been looking at getting my car tinted down that track and was originally going to take it somewhere like Tint-A-Car but I have been thinking now maybe I could do it myself. I have experience putting vinyl signs on shop windows which is a similar procedure, so I should be able to do it. And if it's $100 odd I could do it sooner rather than later! :woot:

One of the sellers on Ebay has a website with easy to follow instructions. The tip is getting those windows clean! Using a Squeegee and good liquid detergent works well. Then keeping the tint clean as well. But I would say you won't have any drama especially when you vinyl signs which is similar in many ways.

metallised tint affects your remote door locking..... get soooo many customers complaining about their remotes not working and it turns out that they have had metal tint fitted

Except you can **** up in SAV - Self-Adhesive Vinyl and get away with but not with tint as it would leave lines in film

Is there a difference in price between them? Just out of curiosity, what is the price for a midnight express tint?

hmm, 380 owner here, metalized tint all round, no problems with bluetooth or AM/FM radion, or key remotes, or anything for that matter

Maybe I'll just put a black sack over the windows. Seems too hard now:rant:

It isn't hard at all, it's only hard when you start looking to save a buck.

Take it to tint-a-car and tell them you want non-metalised midnight express. Couldn't be easier, and they guarantee their work.

We paid $295 for ours in July 08.

I got the tinting done today . Midnight express with non metal film on rear. Looks great and no probs with reception or remote. Very pleased. Just have to wait 2 days until I can open windows to hear the new exhaust note. So I have the sunroof on tilt in the rain haha

Does anybody know if they take the window glass out to tint it? Im basically finished my pw conversion, so just about to fully dynamatt up the front doors again... Will this be a waste? I want to get my car re-tinted in the next few weeks!

Nah ,never seen glass taken out of any of the cars/trucks I've had done over the years.Too time consuming and would cost a fortune if they did it that way.If your glass is all ready out, that might be a different story.

Ahhh awesome, cheers! Although Im a bit confused as to how they get the tint below the door seal if they dont take the glass out? They would have to take the door trim off?

Yep the trims generally have to come off.

Just had my car tint repaired by Tint a Car and yep the trims come of, they clean the windows as best as they can then apply trim and all finished. They did Midnight Express with non metalised on the rear. Next time I may pay the extra and go the Bolle tint as it looks awesome. Never asked if this is metalised though.

Slightly off topic, but what's with that ugly mirrorred-horizon tint craze that's been going around? Looks like a mirror silver all over but with a dark horizon section at the bottom.

Bolle? How is this different to midnight express? I read it was "newest technology' but never understood what the technology was??

To be honest not sure but the Bolle looks absolutely awesome, much nicer than any other tint except of course Limo Tint. As for the Mirror/smoke going around, It looks pathetic but each to there own.

I used to have that 20% illegal tint on my first car, a Ford Laser (early 90s), plus tinted tail lights. A cop car saw me one day and I got a defect for the windows and tail lights and had to take it all off (but I redid the windows a few weeks later).

Tint-a-Car quoted $295 for Midnight Express and $395 for Octane ($100 off of each at the moment) - Holden Hill quoted the same for Octane and $345 for Midnight Express.
