Whiteline adjustable front brace bought off ebay ($188 delivered) arrived yesterday. Will fit it on weekend. Does anyone have any special tips for fitting......looks simple to fit. I placed it over the struts and noiced one of the intake boxes (triangular shaped one) will be very close to strut brace and the box has to be turned to just the right angle. Has anyone had the box jam against the brace under hard acceleration/cornering. Looks like the clearance will be about 10mm.

remove the resonator and bung it up with a McKormicks spice lid or rubber grommet

No please do not do this, they are there for a reason and this has been covered many times before
They will clear, only just but will clear.
Mine clears no issues at all

Why is this? I'm used to RB2XDET's and they don't have these!!
And do the strut braces do much apart from look good?
Cheers, Greg.

They reduce body roll.......

They reduce body roll.......
i thought thats what the springs did? or atleast the sway bars
the strut braces helps stop the struts flexing when under hard cornering

Oh yeah, your right, I was thinking of sway bars....

yeah, see above post.

I think your right!! Here is what wiki thinks:
"A strut bar is designed to reduce this strut tower flex by tying two parallel strut towers together. This transmits the load of each strut tower during cornering via tension and compression of the strut bar which shares the load between both towers and reduces chassis flex."
i need some struttage I think, damn sunroof is starting to creak on the tighter corners

well worth the investment. had one on all my previous 3rd gens, very noticeable difference
... sunroof creaking, thats a new one! never noticed that
its worse when negotiating steep driveways at an angle, the car twists and can hear the sunroof creak. Its annoying and now its a constant creaking sound with bumpy roads.

mate i dont think a strut brace will fix that
maybe the seals are faulty like the ones in the rear windows on the TL's
mine creaks sometimes when pulling out of the driveway

i was being extreme. I know it wont fix it lol. Holden pulled the whole lot apart and regreased all the runners and said there was nothing wrong with it. Might get them to take another look

Tried some vaseline etc on the rubbers that seal it to the roof?.mine creaks when these get dry, lube them and see if it helps,Holden?,id take it to a sunroof place long before i let soem monkey form holden work on her!
its got a warranty with holden and they have always been very good with me, castle hill branch.

when fitting one do you have to get a wheel balance/alighment after. because i've herd it can knock it out.

nope,it should be fitted with no tension at all,its to stabalize the towers, not pull them in or out

rite so how should one be fitted.

Undo bolts on the strut tops, put the brace on, put the bolts back on... done... might have missed something but its pretty straightforward

cheers steevo will give that a try about the vaseline

i thought it was that easy, but i was told when you take the bolts off it lossens the suspension and can throw your wheel alighment and balance out is this correct???
just a word of advise dont use vaseline on rubber seals try and find yourself some silicone grease works much better saem stuff you put on your pool pump o rings

We are talking about the three bolts at strut-top in side the engine bay? There is no room for adjustment of these bolts, so undoing them briefly to pop the strut-brace ring on will make stuff-all difference. Undo one bolt of the three - you will see what I mean.
Just the same, I'd have car on nice level surface wheels straight ahead and do one side at a time - and don't move steering etc while strut-top bolts are undone. But you have the weight of the car sitting on struts so things aren't gonna move, and the bolt holes for strut-tops don't permit movement beyond tiny fractions of a millimetre anyway.
What I am a bit unclear on, is fitting the strut-brace bar...... it is threaded on either side - is their any science involved in applying tension across the bar from strut-top to strut-top? Could a "you-beaut" suspension tuner apply more or less tension on that bar with any detectable improvement in bracing/stopping-flex? It kind of amuses/frustrates me that Whiteline will happily take hundreds of dollars for their stuff, and in my case at least have NIL instructions supplied about fitting their gear (even tho they have marketing stuff directed at DIY)!!

I agree, Whiteline should include some instructions, It would be nice if they had these on their website also.
I thought it would be a simple unbolt, fit brace and then refit and tighten nuts. it is logical that car should be on a level surface (such as in garage). removing the 3 bolts each side will not affect the struts (they won't move).
It also makes sense to have the car in straight ahead steering position. I phoned Whiteline and was told to just put it on. I then asked...what about level surface (answer, oh yes this is a good idea). What about steering position (reply oh straight ahead), The fella at Whiteline suggested bouncing the four corners of the car. I asked it one should equalise the thread at the 2 ends, answer was yeah good idea. I asked if one should try to put tension on the struts (pull them closer together/force them apart by adjusting the length of bar). The answer wa no, just fit it whilst keeping everything as is once nuts removed. Hope this helps.
By the way, love the strut brace, well worth the money and effort (LOL, hardly any effort to fit). I can feel the difference in the way the car handles.
