Hey guys what tyre size are you fitting to the 380 with 17s?
Is anyone fitting a non standard size - ie not 215/55/17 when replacing tyres?

Nah mate. We still using the same tyre size as stated. For the 22'z we could only go 235 and no larger without rolling guards and doing lower camber arm changes.

Yeah, best to stay with the standard size. Or that's how your speedo will slip out of accuracy.
However, I recall Blue380 went for a slightly higher profile tyre when fitting his 19s (can't remember his reasons though...).

possibly to get the speedo closer to accurate? since they all read under stock.
or possibly have a bit more was for a bit more shock absorbtion?

i was thinking maybe a more common size 225-45-17 - more likely to get a good deal on a common size tyre

235/45 is abit closer to original size but still about 25mm smaller in diameter ,thats 12mm less side wall, and are as common as muck. Will fit a 7.5 rim,not sure what you GT's wheels are though? Have a look here if you want to muck around. www.1010tires.com and use their tyre size calculator.

Going to a 45 series tyre would look stupid. Don't do it.

I went for 245/40's to give a fraction more protection for the rims & to make it slightly taller geared....being a manual it needs it.

I'm needing new tyres soon and was annoyed to find the 380 runs a strange tyre size, which means they will cost more than a 17" would on a Commodore or Falcon, where you get an 8inch rim on the sports models. For more grip 235/50/17 offers virtually identical rolling diameter as original, but is also odd and expensive and is sort of pushing it on a 7" rim. I did have 235's on 7" rims on my XF years ago, but don't want to do that again, not when it will cost so much anyway.
I'll be sticking to 215/55/17. I could change the rims for cheaper tyre choice but I like the look of the standard ones on the car.

How about 225/55/17? I think that would fit on a 7" rim ok.
The VE has a few models with that tyre size - calais - berlina - should be a better price as is more common.

Give it time I think 215/55 R17 will drop in price, it is now an OEM tyre for Toyota Aurion and Nissan Maxima and was also fitted to Subaru Outback so it is becoming more common.
If you are after a cheaper tyre Maxxis now offer their MA-P1 in 215/55R17

I have the Maxxis tyre fitted and it is as good as the bridgey and pirellis I have had on the corolla for wet weather grip and all round performance
Also have Maxxis MTB tyres fitted to my MTB and they are awesome

I had some Michelin MXV8's fitted for about 150 a corner not long ago, I didn't shop them out at all though..
They have a slightly rounder side wall which made the ride so much more comfy than OEM's. Quiet and seem to wear well.
Stuck with the Original 17' size though. Reminds me to replace my tire placard....

Have replaced the 16" with 17"when purchased the car. Tyres are 245/45 /17. These are a smaller dia then the stock 16" so speedo runs 10% less. always sit on 110 km/ hr in the 100 zones. Garmin is my friend.
Was always going to get the stock 17" size but never did due to cost. More thought should have gone into it when i replaced the rims but only had 1/2 hr to select.
Remember i replaced the std 16"

You have fitted a wider rim to fit that tyre size - the stock ones are only 7" wide
