Hi all,
I have a TF. I am installing a Kenwood H/U which does not have the illumination wires nor dimmer. It does require a ground wire. On the vehicle wire loom, I have the green / white wire which is the illumination and i also have the black / yellow wire for dimming. Which one can I use for the ground?
Thanks very much.

do NOT use the illumination wire for your earth!
run your own earth to a chassis point under the console there.
scrape some paint (if painted) off, and screw it in, look for another earth there to join onto at the chassis.
im sure someone will correct me if im wrong (audio is not my forte apparently!)
but do NOT use the dimmer wire as an earth..

as above, ground the ground wire to the bracket or some bare metal
the wire normally has like a fork on the end of it or a round end so you can put a screw through it
dont not use the dimmer/illumination wire as its not needed on your deck
just cut off the exposed wire (if any) then tape it up and tuck away

Doddksi speaks the truth. Just use the Kenwood Ground wire and (extend that wire if necessary) find a nice screw or bolt under the dash area to attach it to - there are a few good spots to choose from. Find a metal screw or bolt that connects into something else metal.
Before you fit the HU in the car, solder a "fork" or "loop" connector to that ground wire - even use a crimp connector, but also solder it for better/reliable contact down the track. You are using the HU ground wire to attach to something metallic in the car's construction. The Mitsi plug has no ground wire, and nothing that can substitute for a ground wire as just finding a metallic contact in the dash/console frame.

hi guys,
thanks very much. I was looking for a grounding point on the chasis but that would mean i would have to run the wire around the aircon behind it. I did however find another ground point near the steering wheel. I t already has another item attached to it. I'm guessing i can hook it up there as well.....
Thoughts...?

anywhere with a screw going into bare metal is fine
as long as its not more the 30-50cm away, the shorter the better ;)

thank you.
I will continue wiring the head unit in tomorrow. I stupidly took out all the aircon cables and they were a bit*h to put back. I did not know the aircon unit could slide out of the centre console.

The dash has a bracket on the LHS that is attached to the metal frame, infact the whole metal frame is well earthed so this should be ideal

thanks guys. put in a kenwood and sounds definitely better than the original. I changed the rears as well but I'm waiting for the fronts to arrive from a fellow member.
