Have read through a multitude of threads on PCV Valves and have come to the conclusion that they should be replaced approx every 50000km's.

Now, at $87.00 from Mitsi :roflwtf:, this seems a little excessive to me. Does anyone have any ideas on how the valve can be replaced without having to take out a second mortgage on the house??

Can't you just flush/clean them? I think I've sprayed carby cleaner thru mine once or twice, but they seemed to check-out OK anyway, no blockage and the valve was still doing its thing (tested according to the workshop manuals).

Its just a ball, seat and spring inside there - if it is being difficult, a good soak in solvent should fix it.

just blow through it to check it, it should flow from the rocker cover side out, if it flows both ways, or not at all, give it a clean and see how you go.

They are tasty too.

Cheers for all the feedback. Will give the carby cleaner a go and not worry about a new one if I can get it to work consistently.

it sticks out of the front rocker cover on the drivers side. It has a tube heading back into the inlet manifold. Just pull it out

The PCV generally does not have an interval for replacement

If you give it a good clean out and it performs ie allows air to flow into the manifold but no back into the crank case (a very small amount is fine) then it is working and you have no issues

Some can be got from Reptiles for around the 15ish but not Magna ones.

Subaru are a good example, they are set to be replaced on every magor service, when I worked at the dealership we used to take the changed over ones home and use them on our and our mates cars as there was nothing wrong with them at all after a clean

Is it just me or does it seem like Mits parts for our cars have gone through the roof since the Adelaide plant shut?

it probably would have an impact on part prices, less supply?

yeah no doubt, which means these cars over the next few yrs are going to become very very expensive to maintain.
anyone who has a ralliart or VRX LE etc would do well if they could to lock it away now and buy a daily. reckon the value will increase in the future.

PMSL I highly doubt that lol the only people who care about the Magna are those on this forum, and most will just get a different car

:stoopid: Stock up on Ralliart front bars etc - all these specialised components are already getting very price sensitive.

Cars like the ralliarts will go up in value due to limited numbers built, may be awhile but they will. for example early 90s nissan pulsar GTI-R's here are fairly rare and expensive.

But a worked GTI-R goes like satan's ride should!

yeah even the 89-90 mazda 323 hatch, the turbo 4wd ones are getting rare and worth alot, even with dead rego etc. go like a rocket though, i remember when i was about 17 and a guy i knew had one that was worked a bit. we did 180km around a long sweeping corner with it just stepping out slightly, was ****ing terrifying!!! NOT that i condone this driving, he didnt tell me he planned to do it!!
