Hey guys,

I am soon to be attempting a tiptronic conversion on my TH 3.0L Exec, the equipment I will be using is from a TW ES.

The following parts will be obtained:

- TW ES Cluster
- TW ES Dash Harness
- TW ES ECU
- TW ES BEM
- TW ES Keys
- TW ES Climate Control
- TW ES Seats/Door Cards (Inc Power Drivers Seat)
- TW ES Centre Console
- TW ES Tippy Shifter

I have received this quote from the member I am buying from:

Dean I tried the ECU/BEM & ignition barrell in a TJ 2 tippy wagon and whilst it started and ran OK at idle it put the tranny into limp mode when driving because the TW speedo picks its signal up from the ABS system (I think). The TW auto does not have a speedo sender unit in the g'box where all the others have it. What it has is a blanking plug fitted.

What I need to know, is what are the differences between the TJ and TW in terms of the tippy models? Is there a speedo sensor, if so, where is it located? I do not have ABS and have no intentions of installing it, however I am prepared to modify the harness to send the speedo output to a different pin if required.

Cheers guys,
Dean

Ok, I've done a little research and it looks like the TL definately has the sensor (and TW being mechanically the same as the TL, TW would as well).

Attached is the diagram showing whats where. So does anyboyd know what would cause it to go in to limp mode?

I know, I was just confirming. I still need to know why it went in to limp mode.

Slight update, I gave Steve Knight a call regarding my plans, he advised there is an incompatibility of a certain transmission (did not know which one) which will cause it to go in to limp mode. He said however if I am using the TW harness and cluster everything else should be fine, and the tranny will be hit and miss :)

Also said running a 6g74 ECU on a 6g72 will be fine, it will adapt, and he will retune it for around the $350 mark :)

That's a lot of money for the wank factor of tippy.

So did I lol

You will also need the engine harness as well, in short I would get all wiring from the car so you have everything yo need incase

In effect you will be planting a TW into a TH body

Not having a go but no where has a $$ amount been mentioned and if I recall someone else here was looking at a TJII conversion to get the tippy and 5 speed auto?
