So I was putting in my drivers door power window regulator today as this was one of the last things I needed to do for my pw conversion. I was doing up the final 3 bolts which connect the regulator to the glass, when bam, one of the bolts snapped. Now the thread is still stuck in the thready bit of the nut looking thing on the window. See pic below. As you can see, I used a drill to try and get the thread out, but with not much success as there is now a half-thread still stuck in there which doesnt want to budge.

Im thinking I will have to buy the little metal thing + a new bolt, But from where? Would mitsubishi sell this little part?? Or will they make me pay for a whole new window?

I was also a bit confused as to how I would remove the little metal thing which has the thread in it. Looks like I need 2 tools (the same tool, just two of them) that have two little round bits that I stick in each side and twist in opposite directions as they are held on by the thread which also has the broken bolt inside (The thread thing has thread on the outside and inside of it so it can hold the plastic which is connected to the window as well as where the bolts are supposed to go into to hook the rego up to the glass...) Any suggestions?

Its a bit confusing to read you post.... but..... here goes!

I think you are saying that the metal fitting through the window glass may be made in two halves which possibly unscrew from either side of the glass? If you are correct in this matter - I doubt the tool req'd could be bought.

However, you could improvise and try using needle-nose pliers or circlip pliers on either side to attempt unscrewing the metal fitting. There are cheapish needle-nose pliers with bent tips which may or may not make the job easier too. This would be best attempted with a least one mate helping, each of you trying form opp side of glass.

A wife, mum or girlfriend holding the glass steady and upright might be helpful too. Consider also, that it could be left or right threaded so try either way.

If you succeed in unscrewing the fitting from the glass, I'd suggest a self-serve wrecker to get a replacement fitting and bolt - though it might also an interesting exercise to pop into a Mitsi Parts counter........ you may be told that part was NEVER fitted to window glass, or that you cannot buy that part or indeed the window glass but you must buy a complete car instead, or maybe the part is freely available from any Mitsi Dealer but only in Botswana. EDIT: Sorry, I just have "challenging" discussion with Parts guys at times. If you go to Parts, have a VIN number and model details handy at least.

Another tack to consider, altho your drilling hasn't been too successful so far, can you drill it enough to get an "Ezy-Out" thread extractor into the remains of the bolt. Try some possum-pee, freeze-release spray or moderate heat (say hair-dryer) on the stump of bolt to assist your chances.

Good luck.
