hay all

My gearbox has been finished and recod. Just gotta get the mechanic to fit it. but the gearbox reconditioner found the problem he said hes never seen this before. The axle gear itself broke inhalf. i got pic of the gear itself. Aswell he said the splines are abit worn to.

Must have been a bad casting?

Perhaps from burnouts?

Most likely not a proper casting, it may be a sintered part or machined from solid.

Cracking like that would most likely be caused by an overstress condition.
Can you do a nice Macro close up of the break faces.

Heh, I was hoping you HAD killed the clutch. I'd rather change a clutch then be facing a gearbox rebuild any day of the week.

Hey Kurt, what did you get done? Just change the shatterd gear or did you get the whole gearbox reconditioned with new bearings, syncros etc.

Burnouts & flat shifting. Mmm, recipe for win.

how come this box broke.. but there are heaps of ppl running massive power through them elsewhere trouble free?

tzaboy for example.. his car has done well over 100,000kms... with brass button clutch doing track days, drag racing all with big HP and no gearbox issues..

still dont reckon that should break a box on near stock power... seen alot worse done to them.. guess it does break them though ey

Nothing is unbreakable . . . . some people are better than others at finding the weakest link. lol

thats because tzaboy has a LSD, Kurt doesn't and that what he has broken the planetary gear in the diff

weakest link in GB if you upgrade clutch, but you only break them if you are dumping the clutch with big wheels
