Hi All,

I've had a problem develop on my 94 TS Executive Wagon in the last few weeks.

For some reason, when *warm* only and has been sitting for a few minutes (instant off/on is usually fine), it has trouble starting, will just keep cranking and struggles to start.. usually will after a few more cranks but it dicks around a bit (for about 1 second) struggling to get up to RPM.. no idea what the technical term for that is :)

I've figured if I give it a smidge of throttle (a good stab also works, but then it revs its tits off.. which seems like a bad idea :) - just enough to get it to say 1500rpm at idle, then it starts fine.

In the past it'd usually start pretty instantly when warm - 1 crank and go. But when the engine is cold, its still pretty good as it always has, usually maybe 2/3 cranks at worst - takes like 1 second then bang running good.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Trent

Are you using top gun spark leads?

Not intentionally, AFAIK they are stock but never actually "checked" .. haven't changed them myself.

"will just keep cranking and struggles to start.."

Carb or EFI? (should be efi unless previous owner was being funny, like Executive badge on a GLX, or an engine swap.)

Sounds like a carby equipped car that is flooding, to me - hot start procedure is to hold the throttle WIDE OPEN and release when it starts. If your car is EFI I suspect leaking injectors. EFI car should start without any throttle, hot or cold.

Pull your spark plugs and look for rich running. Let us know what they look like.

Yeh mine is EFI.

Like I said yeah, usually does but (also its not everytime.. just sometimes) .. sometimes fails to warm start.

Will check the plugs.

It's worth noting, this probably co-incided a bit with the onset of the super cold season.. not that I'm sure that matters when the engine is warm.
