Hey guys, just fitted a powerflow stainless muffler to my car, let us know what you think!

You didn't want the VRX tip? Looks different with standard pipe, but sounds beefy. Looks like you almost blew the camera (phone?) away with one of those revs.

To be honest I completely forgot to mention to the mechanic to fit the original big tip so i'll do that next week. I am pretty happy with the note, not to loud in normal driving but nice and deep when given a bit. And yeah haha the camera nearly went for a tumble

$190 bucks fitted mate. I thought it is reasonable for a stainless muffler. Getting a tip fitted next week cause a certain silly someone forgot about it when booking in their car for a muffler

Cheers mate! At town speeds ever so slightly, due to the auto selecting 5th as soon as it can. But other than that it is not noticeable whatsoever. Id have to run it for a bit before I notice any performance gains but its safe to say any sort of exhaust mod is going to have a positive effect on performance

How much noisier do you reckon it would get if you fitted extractors? Taking 2 cats out of the equation could make it hell loud! I can't make up my mind what to fit first, muffler or extractors

I'd say there would be a large noise increase. However I never really considered extractors as my mitsubishi dealer will not allow them under warranty, a muffler is quite sufficient for now. The standard mufflers on the 380's are massively baffled so they do cut alot of sound out. So far as I can tell the rest of the standard 380 system is pretty good quality....I havent seen to many falcons or commodores that sound nice with just a muffler change, but I could be wrong?

From my experience there is a lot more noise when you put the extractors on, taking the precats out of the loop maks a hell of a difference.

When I drove your car (before you gimped it :P ) I didn't think it was much louder than mine but I thought there was more engine vibration through the steering wheel and cabin generally.

Yeah you are probably right, mine was just right before the extractors & then got louder with more drone/vibration through the cabin as you said. My first effort with the metalcat & new system was stupid loud, droney & quite annoying. At the moment it is ok but still a bit barky & loud for me.

Grub,
Far as I can tell, the only time you would lose power is if you go to a full split system from the exhaust manifolds/headers without an H join between the two pipes. As apparently mytsgt95 found.
If you go for the same type of system I have, single pipe most of the way splitting into two after the petrol tank, there is no loss of power at all, providing you use straight through mufflers.

I wouldn't think there would be any even if you put triflow mufflers on as you will have nearly twice the flow with dual outlets. (or should I say half the restriction)

It's not stainless steel, it's mild steel.
And $250 is the cost of the muffler & fitting, as it's not a bolt up replacement & cutting & welding is required.

Gees that is a bit more than mine was fitted then, and i also had to have a few things welded. And considering mild steel will not last nearly as long as the stainless.

Forgot to point out that $250 was just Braedz's guestimate, which sounds about right to me. But if you shop around you might be able to find a place which will supply & fit the BS0655 for a bit less than that.
Also, the BS0655 is on the Best Mufflers web site for $110 & shipping. That may or may not be less than a muffler shop can get it for.

My Berklee was $140 fitted with my original tip (though that was almost 2 years ago now).
My reason for getting it: it was recommended to me as the only muffler extensively tested for the 380 (aparently it was going to be supplied with the 380, but missed out right at the end for some reason). Also, it is fairly quiet and doesn't drone.

I was talking to the guy who has done my exhausts in the past an explained to him that I wanted the car to breathe better but not to be noisy (= cranky wife!) He suggested a redback baffled sports muffler for around the $140 mark. I think I will be doing this. It will be a bit noisier but not that bad and still give alot better flow. Anyone gone for something like this?

They may have a Walker in them (I wouldnt know) but it is definitely not a "straight through" muffler.
I have a Lukey Ultraflow on my 380 which is a straight through (you can see right through it) but it is a bit too droney for my liking. Would be great for constant spirited driving though.
I listened to the Redback when I went to audition mufflers, it was actually deeper than the Lukey but I dont know what theyre like welded on and sat in the car.
I'll be sticking a Berklee on in the next month or so.

Its not that loud at all. The muffler I have was previously on KJ380s ride. I am not sure how many Ks he did with it on though. I have done around 2500ks with the muffler and havnt noticed any difference with the noise at all.

The Berklee is louder than the standard one, but not too much (The YouTube video I made to demonstrate this, failed miserably).
It depends what you want. If you want a deeper louder sound, you may be unhappy with the Berklee. But if you just wanted a bit of noise - and no drone at all - from a straight-thru muffler, the Berklee will be good.
And they do get louder as they age. I wasn't too impressed with it all when it was new; I couldn't hear much difference at all over the original one. But over time it gets a bit louder and deeper. I reckon, if it made the noise that it does now, back then - then I'd have been much happier with it.
As I recently mentioned elsewhere, my wife has "commented" a few times about my 5am start-ups. I used to like a few minutes idle time, but she complained about the noise and reverbaration coming through the house from the garage.
Bottom line, I'm happy with it (wouldn't mind a bit deeper, but have no plans to change it now) - and I think all the other Berklee owners are happy with theirs too.

I am an old fart too, thats why I liked the Berklee because it gave a very good performance gain & only made it a little louder than standard (when first fitted).
I also got to sample a few mufflers held in place prior to welding and originally went with a Swift straight thru. It sounded pretty good standing next to the car when held in place but when I got it fitted and drove away, it was that loud and droning inside the car it gave me a headache within 5 minutes. I pretty much couldnt drive the car for a few days (because it was so loud) until I got booked in to get it replaced with the drone-free Berklee. I would therefore STRONGLY suggest to anyone sampling new mufflers, get inside the car when they hold the muffler in place and rev it because you dont notice the unbearable drone from outside the car!!!

Mikey,
My mufflers are 14" x 8" x 8" (i.e. round cross section not oval) or 896 cubic inches.
My exhaust guy reckoned that 14" long was all that would comfortably fit under the passenger side due to the fuel filler pipe being in the way.
But Fooz's Supercats are apparently a fair bit longer, and they are obviously oval. I'm guessing 18" x 8" x 5", which comes out at 720 cubic inches. He hinted in another thread that a little 'denting' of the passenger side muffler was needed before it would fit.
So if my guess is right my mufflers should be a little quieter and maybe less droney than Fooz's.
Fooz - can you let us know the dimensions of your mufflers?

KJ they are actually 18" x 12" x 6.5" straight throughs. They didn't dent the muffler it was just a suggestion if the fit was real close & in the end they fitted ok. I don't have any drone at all now but I have put extra resonators in at the front.

Not sure of part number but looking at the Supercat website I think it maybe the SCM8802 (11 by 6 Oval Mega Flow) which is actually a 17" x 11" x 6". My measurements were external dimensions & they probably quote the internal without the seams etc.

No mate have no idea, I just kept going back adding & changing until I got it right. I've probably spent about $2500 on my system including extractors with all the different setups I have had over the life of the car.
Very happy with the current setup though
EDIT - Mikey just noticed you in QLD, if you're in Brissy you can have a look at mine if you want?
I'm up on the sunshine coast mate. I'll have to have a squizz on a cruise further down the track or something...the supercats your running are stainless yeah?

Nope not stainless. If you like the setup I'll tell you where to go get a setup the same on the Northside of Brisbane.
Doesn't look like they do stainless in the BIG mufflers.

Oh true, well I guess I don't do many short trips so moisture sitting in the muffler shouldn't be to much of a problem. Mate at this stage its purely talk, uni budget limits most things past servicing costs lol
