Hey guise

When my car changes from 2nd to 3rd gear it lurches. I called Mitsubishi Melville and they said that it might be slipping or on the way out. I checked the transmission fluid and it is yellow in colour and smells a little like glue or nitro fuel. Instead of just changing my fluid and filter I was thinking Mitsubishi could do a transmission service.

I was quoted $260 for a diagnostics test lasting 2 hours. Not sure if this included an oil change :\.

Any ideas what it would be or the cause? I guess its a lack of changing the transmission fluid (lol).

My first worry if I was you is, why is the fluid yellow when it should be red/pink.

I think the same. Both mitsubishi trans fluid and Dextron III are pink right?

Don't ask me, It's been working fine for a year. :S

Given the suspect fluid I think your best option is a full transmission flush followed by a computer reset.
There's a guide somewhere with the reset procedure but the Mitsubishi service centre should know what their doing.

I've just read apparently transmission fluid goes yellow when mixed with water.

Well that would indicate a leak, otherwise someones just put the wrong transmission fluid in the car which happens to be yellow. Mitsu boxes can be quite temperamental and need the right trans fluid or they tend to get a bit rough and flare gear changes, which sounds like what your experiencing.

I trans flush shouldn't cost more than $200, my mechanic does it for $150 personally.

What is your coolant like? Need topping up often? CArs with a tranny cooler often have a pipe that goes through the bottom radiator tank. These can split (rare)

I never need to top up the coolant. Thanks for the tip, i'll check anyway.

Yeah mine is doing the same thing, I'm assuming its just the tranny needing a service because the fluid is brown. I'm getting it flushed on monday.

SAMMMME :D:D:D. Mitsubishi dealerships seem a little too pricey. I'm going ot get a quote from Midas on mon, then probably book my car in :D.

Just make sure they use the specific Mitsubishi ATF, NOT Dexron III

Midas is doing a Flush on Wednesday. It's going to be $220 and he said its just a flush and filter change. They are going to use Mits ATF. Do I need to ask for the Computer to be reset?

You can reset the computer yourself by disconnecting the battery for 5 mins. Get the flush and see how you go first.
