it changes as I change gears, and you can only hear it from the left wheel... thinking it might be a CV

i had a 4wd L200 that had no drive to a front wheel because the CV spline was slipping in the CV due to it been cracked. very rare though, i would think.
Pull out the CV, see what condition is like. If it's the CV theres a place in Auburn that sells recos for $90 (no trade needed).
Heres their details:
CV Joint Aust Pty Ltd
3 Alexander ST,
Auburn NSW 2144
02 9743 7788

Pop off your wheel, and detach the wheel from your suspension arm, you should then be able to pop the driveshaft out of the hub (just pops out)
to get it outta the transmission, just pry it out with a tyre lever, really easy job!

Can also be done without detaching from suspension arm, I just removed the hub from the strut and left everything else attached.
The place mentioned above also do deliveries, they'll courier it to you.

Is your car a 2nd gen? I'm sure Paul would be telling him the easiest way to do it.

Thats what i meant? The two big 17mm(?) bolts that hold the hub to the strut, then should drop forward and shaft should slide out.
Thanks Rhys but 2nd gen and 3rd gen front ends are very similar so any way really would be fine

Ahh ok, I thought you were referring to the lower arm :) and yes, 17mm.

Yay it runs again, they said the auto box was almost out of fluid (I don't believe that, I check it weekly)

they may have checked it in wrong gear, it should be in neutral at operating temp on level ground. both my owners manual and workshop manual say this. if i check mine in park it says its overfull, are you checking the level in park and they are checking it correctly?? this would mean it could be low.

that's a good point rob, I normally check in park I think... should check and make sure there is enough fluid in there I guess.
